#ChallengeAccepted: Here’s Why Women Are Posting Their Black & White Pics On Instagram

Amidst these trying times (four months and counting), people have been coming up with different ways to keep themselves entertained. We’ve seen several trends emerging on social media – be it the #QuarantinePillowChallenge for the fashion souls or the weird #MugshotMakeupChallenge. And now, there’s a new trend that’s taking the internet by storm, but this one is all about building positivity.

If you happened to scroll through your Instagram feed recently, you might have noticed a lot of black and white pictures of women with the hashtag #ChallengeAccepted. Wondering what the challenge is? Well, here’s everything you need to know about the new viral trend that is growing by the day.

What Is #ChallengeAccepted?

#ChallengeAccepted is a campaign to spread the messages of female solidarity and women empowerment. The viral trend involves sharing a black and white picture of yourself, using the hashtags #ChallengeAccepted and #WomenSupportingWomen. Women, then, are tagging other women to take on the challenge and do the same. Some are also taking this opportunity and writing a line or two about the importance of female friendships and empowerment.

This is not the first time Instagram users have used black and white pictures to support a cause. Back in 2016, there was a similar trend of posting black and white selfies that were tied to raising awareness about cancer.

Who All Are Participating?

While it’s unclear who kicked off this viral challenge, the diversity of women participating in it is impressive. So far, over 3.5 million photos have been uploaded with the #ChallengeAccepted hashtag while many more have been posted without it. The challenge circulated like chainmail as the participants tag at least one woman (several, in many cases). Celebrities across the world have also helped the campaign gain visibility.
