My Instagram feed is flooded with videos of influencers performing on Atrangi Re’s new song, Chaka Chak. They are dancing and creating new trends on it and meanwhile, we are getting even more obsessed with the track. NGL, the tune is playing in my head even while I’m writing this and well, I’m not complaining at all. The song is catchy, upbeat, and A. R. Rahman’s signature composition will remind you of all his beautiful 90’s music. Oh and also, Sara Ali Khan is looking absolutely ‘chaka-chak’ in the video. We’re loving her desi avatar in bright green saree and red blouse, and her bold moves. BTW, talking about her moves, you’d be surprised to know that it has a Karan Johar connection.
It turns out that the actress rehearsed for the song while she was in Goa, in KJo’s house during the lockdown. This revelation was made by the filmmaker and Sara during the latest episode of Koffee Shots With Karan.
During a conversation with Dhanush on the show, KJo revealed that he first heard the song, Chaka Chak during the lockdown while Sara was rehearsing for it. He said, “Why I know about the song, or rather when I heard it first (was when) we were in Goa together. Sara would come to where I would stay to rehearse. She had her dance choreographer, assistant with him.” He confirmed with the actress if he was talking about the right track and asked, “Wasn’t that the same song?”
Sara nodded and Karan lauded the actress for being so dedicated to her work. He added, “So when I heard this song, I said, ‘Oh my god, this is the song she was rehearsing for and very diligently every day.” That’s when she quickly added that she was practising the moves in his bathroom for quite a funny reason.
Sara said, “(I was rehearsing) In your bathroom. I didn’t want to tell you this but now I guess I can. Your room’s mirror was very small but the bathroom had a huge mirror.” KJo had a hilarious reply to this and said that the actress was Chaka-chak-ing in his washroom *LOL*!
The Love Aaj Kal actress revealed that shooting for the song was the first thing she did professionally when the lockdown lifted. She said, “We’d been in lockdown for six months and it’s the first thing that one did after lockdown. Also, I haven’t really been to Madhurai before or really anywhere in the south properly. So I think being there, kind of experiencing that world, the way the song is shot, doing my first solo song, I think all of that was probably very interesting.”
We have to say, Sara nailed it in the song and we think the music video is all things chaka chak! Atrangi Re released on Disney+ Hotstar today and we think she has given a stellar performance in the film. Go watch it now!
