Over the years, most of the shows on Indian telly have been all about taking badla, generational leap, manipulation, human transforming into a fly or lizard or even half-human characters. From saas who wouldn’t let you breathe in peace, to bahu who is constantly trying to be the ideal one, we have seen it all. And we need a major shift on Indian television. Well, now that certainly cannot happen break ke baad, but some of the makers sure are taking one step at a time. At the time when progressive storylines are rare, a show like Mere Dad Ki Dulhan is a breath of fresh air. Looks like, waqt badal raha hai, right?

This one is winning many hearts with its unconventional storyline. The plot revolves around a single father and his daughter. Amber, played by Varun Badola is a widowed father who has a daughter named Niya (who turned 24). They meet a middle-aged woman Guneet (Shweta Tiwari) and this is where the show becomes more progressive. This serial shows Shweta Tiwari sign up for a dating app at 40 plus and Varun Badola making coffee for his daughter’s male boss who comes home. Now, how cool is that?
This show has also received a lot of love from twitterati. Take a look at some of the reactions.

Amber n Nia somewhat share a bittersweet relationship both r right in their own ways where amber doesn't want to accept change n Nia being equally concerned for him in her absence .the best solution would be for Nia to take him along with her to US . #MereDadKiDulhan

Let us not forget that there were a couple of shows in the past, especially in the 90s, and these can put the current ones to shame. A show called Astitva had a career-oriented woman marrying a man almost a decade younger to her. Isn’t that progressive much?
