It was just last month that Anushka Sharma took to social media and thanked the paparazzi and fan clubs for showing restraint in little Vamika’s case and never posting her pictures. “We are deeply thankful to the Indian paparazzi and most of the media fraternity for not publishing pictures/videos of Vamika. As parents, our request to the few who carried the images/video will be to support us going forward. We seek privacy for our child and would like to do our best to give her a chance to live her life freely away from media and social media. As she is older we cannot restrict her movement and hence your support is needed so kindly practice restraint in the matter,” the actress wrote. Well, if only she knew that she was effectively jinxing the situation by writing that!
Anushka and Virat Kohli’s little one, Vamika has been trending on Twitter since last night after pictures and videos of her were broadcasted during an India Vs South Africa cricket match at the Cape Town Stadium. It was quite an unexpected sight for everyone who was watching the match and some were quick to grab screenshots and post them online. It was not surprising that the pictures spread like wildfire and the social media frenzy does not seem to calm down any time soon.
Clearly, netizens can not keep calm after seeing Vamika for the first time and it is showing in the Twitter trends. That said, there are also those who are cognizant of what her parents must be going through right now and are dissing the broadcasters, requesting everyone not to share these pictures and videos further.
“We all know that accidentally we saw @imVkohli daughter Vamika in a while when Virat completed his half-century so I request you all not to hype it and upload her photos just a request because he had done many efforts to maintain her life private,” a Twitter user has written. “Not sure if Virat Kohli and Anushka were ready for this but if it was broadcasted without their consent, this is extremely disappointing #vamika#SAvIND@StarSportsIndia,” another one has added.
Anushka and Virat had earlier shared why they want to keep their daughter away from the limelight and said, “We have decided as a couple to not expose our child to social media before she has an understanding of what social media is and can make her own choice.”
It is not difficult to understand where they are coming from as parents and the least we can do is respect the couple and their little one’s privacy. That is not too much to ask for, right? Well, what’s done cannot be undone now but we do hope that the paparazzi do not see the current situation as a green signal to click and post Vamika’s pictures as and when they please.
