With India being the official country of honour at the Cannes Film Festival 2022, our desi girls are determined to make it big on the red carpet. ‘Go big or go home’ seems to be the fashion memo and we’re loving the spirit! Last evening, Deepika Padukone went peak Bollywood in her back to back Sabyasachi looks. Meanwhile, Urvashi Rautela and Tamannaah Bhatia embraced full glamm to make their Cannes debut in black and white fits. Here’s a lowdown on their looks:
Urvashi Rautela made her Cannes red carpet debut doing what she does best i.e. being extra grand. Reminding us of DP’s look from the previous years, the actress opted for tiered ruffles. The look comprised a white Cindrellesque gown by Tony Ward Cannes Capsules collection beautified with nature-inspired 3D embellishments on the shoulder and waist.
This is a very Urvashi Rautela look if you ask us. The theme seems to be a gorgeous mix of magic, purity, and grandeur and the dainty diamonds just add to the feel.
The actress completed the look with her trademark red lips and an elaborate bun. Sadly, none of them really work. While the red lipstick disrupts the otherwise pristine theme, intense confusion is visible in that braided/messy bun.
After starting off the film festival in a pastel pantsuit, Tamannaah decided to up the ante by channelling full drama in a trailing gown. Now, here’s the thing with her look—we love it like we hate it. The Gauri & Nainika gowns is replete with details. Too many details. We like the idea of a fish cut meets bustle silhouette. The tulip cut bodice is nice too but we aren’t too big on how all of it has been executed. The finish seems off and maybe the cowl neck could’ve been avoided.
That said, the actress has yet again delivered in the beauty department with a retro hairdo, winged eyes, and her nude lippie. It kinda pins the entire outfit together. This is why we love this look as much as we hate it. It’s complicated!
Which one of these desi divas impressed you more on the Cannes red carpet? We’d love to know!
