Go off the beaten track and pick a honeymoon destination that’s not a place where the janta usually goes for this special vacay. Make it unique with a tailor-made itinerary. 1. Vietnam
Think Far East and only Thailand comes to mind, but seriously, Thailand and all its islands are so overdone that it’s time we give them a break and consider its neighbours. Like Vietnam, for instance. Go on a river cruise, attend a cooking class, go scuba diving or mountain hiking – the terraced fields and forests are inviting, to say the least.
2. Canada
Ditch America and go to its friendly neighbour with a handsome Prime Minister instead. *Wink* The country is huge, the scenery is breathtaking and the adventures are unforgettable. Ride on a train, go skiing, and get an glimpse of the wildlife there – there is just so much to do in Canada that you’ll need a few weeks to explore it all.
3. New Zealand
With miles of untouched wilderness waiting to be explored, you can calm your senses in this romantic pacific getaway. Then, when you are done with the peace and silence, get an adrenaline rush by bungee-jumping or skydiving! If you can, we suggest you drive a rental car across the country, and you’ll love every bit of it. If you’re a fan of Lord Of The Rings, head to Hobbiton, and oh, did we mention the beaches are more than awesome in NZ?
4. Spain
Of rolling vineyards, sun and sand and romantic hotspots, draft a fun itinerary and take cues from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara if you’d like (skydiving, the Tomatina festival…you get the hint right?). Soak in the culture and experiment with the cuisine with narrow streets full of traditional tapas spots.
5. Tanzania
Go wild! Dine with the giraffes and zebras and spot the big five. There are more than 25,000 mammals, so spotting a few is never difficult. Sip on their local wine on a terrace at the scenic Ngorongoro Crater and keep an eye out for black rhinos. Head to Serengeti, Tanzania’s oldest game reserve, for a classic safari ride. We bet, it can’t get wilder than this!
6. Hong Kong
Got culture, food and plenty of shopping on your mind? Then Hong Kong is your best bet. They have the best Michelin star restaurants and the street food rocks too. Cruise around the city, shop till you drop, and oh, it has a Disneyland too. You could even hop, skip and jump to Macau for some game of luck, awesome nightlife and good food as well.
7. South Africa
Action junkies, athletes, and animal lovers…this country has some of the best places in store for you. From game reserves, to fairy tale palaces, to coastal vineyards and seaside resorts – pick what works for you. And the food – oh well, it sure will keep your taste buds tantalized.
8. Turkey
A country that has for centuries acted as a gateway to Europe, you’ll find lots of culture and plenty of adventure to keep you occupied for days. You can shop for mosaics and chic blue pottery or go white-water rafting, head to a Byzantine fortress. The food is fantastic too. Actually, you’ll fall in love with Istanbul’s vibe and we bet it would be hard to leave.
9. The English Countryside
The heart of England is in its countryside. Of coastal retreats, tearoom cafes and homemade cakes, and dancing rainbows – the English charm is omnipresent here in a kaleidoscope of green, blue and amber. There is just so much to see. Drive around in a rental to explore it all at your own pace, we suggest.
10. Morocco
Great weather, mesmerising sunrises and starlit sunsets – a place full of mystique, romance and history, you will love every bit of the beautiful cities in Morocco. The souks or bazaars here are full of handcrafted carpets, silver jewellery and pottery, so do leave space in your bag for all of that. Treat yourself and him to a refreshing hamam spa – after all, that’s what honeymoons are all about!
