Warner Brothers recently dropped the trailer of Tom & Jerry movie and we can’t keep calm. The universally adored cat and mouse duo are back and giving us a major dose of nostalgia. The trailer features the cutest frenemies ever, creating havoc in New York. As the trailer suggests, the movie is partially-animated. The audience will see Tom and Jerry in their usual animated versions in a real-world background with live actors. That really gives a modern touch to our favourite childhood cartoon.
The movie also stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pena, Rob Delaney, Colin Jost, and Ken Jeong. The trailer reveals that Jerry has notoriously found his home in a reputed hotel of New York that’s soon going to host a ‘wedding of the century’ (also, it looked like a big fat Indian wedding). Obviously, the hotel employees want to get rid of the ‘mouse problem’ and guess whom do they hire for the job? Yes, it’s Tom!
That’s where the out-of-the-world (quite literally) and the OG cat-and-mouse chase begins and we cannot wait to watch the whole mind-blowing drama on-screen. Honestly, we hope Jerry goes a little easy on Tom this time but let’s admit it, where’s the fun in that!
So, while watching and re-watching the trailer of this upcoming movie, we thought of our other favourite cartoons turning into 2020-esque movies! You know, the OG characters with a modern plot? Sounds exciting, right? So, let’s take a look at some of the most unforgettable 90s cartoons that totally deserve a movie adaptation.

Admit it, ever since Detective Pikachu made its way into the theatres, we have been asking for more. However, Tom & Jerry might just have started a whole new trend altogether and we say let the madness keep on rolling! From Powerpuff Girls to Scooby-Doo, here’s the list of cartoons we want to see on big screens – like right now!
Dexter’s Laboratory
Science and technology can never go out of fashion and neither can Dexter (not talking about the one who kills for fun). Dexter Laboratory was always a little unbelievable — a science prodigy who had a secret lab in his house, an elder sister who always outsmarted her genius brother and entered his lab, parents who had ABSOLUTELY no clue? Sure. But, despite the loopholes, we loved the plot of innovative experiments gone awry and the cute sibling combo. A modern approach to this ahead-of-its-time cartoon? Yes, please!
Powerpuff Girls
Okay, so we honestly do not have a problem with Disney princesses — except their ‘damsel in distress’ character, submissive nature, and let us not get started on their definition of ‘perfect love story’.
Basically, Disney princesses are problematic and thank god Hollywood filmmakers are bringing in some change by making movies on characters like Mulan. However, to imagine a young child getting inspired by these problematic princesses is a worrisome thought. That makes it even more important for cartoons like Powerpuff Girls to be recreated for the silver screen! Let the little ones be introduced to these OG female superheroes! Also, we want the cartoon back for Mojo Jojo!
Courage The Cowardly Dog
The millennials might know about The American Horror Story, but a true 90s kid would know that once there was truly nothing more spookier than Courage The Cowardly Dog. The show was, as the name suggests, about a cowardly dog named Courage, who used to save his elderly owners from scary monsters. We are sure that if this cartoon is ever made into a real-life movie, it will be really, really, dark and disturbing.
The Jetsons
The Jetsons aired till 1987 and portrayed a futuristic world. Interestingly enough, even after more than 30 years, The Jetsons’s world remains futuristic to date, and that is to say something! If The Jetsons gets converted into a movie, the filmmakers will have to take a few pointers from the OG show itself to bring in modern touches, don’t you think?
Richie Rich
A super-rich kid with a good heart and extremely limited friends — sounds cliche but would make a really creative plot if it’s ever adapted into a movie, again. It was created for the first time in 1994 and was honestly, a disappointment on the box-office. However, we would like to see how Richie would now adapt to the new world of social media and technologies.
Johnny Bravo
Hello mama! Johnny was quite a problematic character with his OTT egomaniac and narcissistic tendencies. He loved beautiful women and by beautiful, we mean another set of problematic parameters that he had designed to describe beauty. But, what we really liked about the cartoon was how the creator of Johnny Bravo, Van Partible, was extremely witty in his approach.
Bravo basically depicted the men who could not take no for an answer from women. He had this entire imaginary rulebook that would impress any woman he wanted. BUT, it never worked! Johnny could hardly ever impress a girl because they were smart, stunning, and never allowed Johnny to treat them as merely sex-objects.
We would love to see how Johnny Bravo’s antics fail in today’s modern world!
Scooby-Doo
We simply love Scooby and Shaggy. No offence Sherlock and Detective Pikachu, but no one does the investigating task better than the two most cowardly and stoned characters. Plus we loved the mysteries they always solved accidentally!
Hope we get to see these cartoons as movies soon!
