Winters are here and we know that means bright sunshine, cuddles, blankets, and chic coats but it also means dry skin and chapped lips. However, that doesn’t have to be the case. If you moisturise well and look after your skin, it can look as healthy, glowing, and nourished as it did in the summer months. And as far as your lips are concerned, you just need to keep a few tips and tricks in mind and your lips won’t look chapped during sweater weather.
If you’re a matte lipstick fan (hello, me), you know how terrible it feels to see your lipstick settling into every crack and flakiness on your lips (also me). But don’t worry, if you keep a few things in mind, chilly weather’s got nothing on your Insta-ready pout!
Choose A Creamy Matte Formula
For super dry lips, shifting to creamy matte formulas during the winters may be a good option. These come with lip nourishing ingredients that are easier and more comfortable to wear. The pigmentation is just as good as super matte formulas but the staying power may not be as long so we suggest filling your lips with a lipliner before going in with the lipstick.
Exfoliate Your Lips
Dry spots on your lips are the worst thing and matte lipsticks just exaggerate those for the world to see. However, exfoliating your lips and scrubbing them well before doing your makeup could be the solution to your problem. You can easily make a DIY lip scrub or even go in with a store-bought one.
Moisturise. Moisturise. Moisturise.
Your one mantra during the winters should be to moisturise and moisturise again. This is as true for your lips as it is for your body. Once you’re done exfoliating, moisturise your lips well so that they get all the hydration they need. You can also add a lip sleeping mask to your nighttime skincare routine to wake up with baby soft lips.
Prime Your Lips
Yes, just like your eyelids and face, your lips need priming too. Before wearing matte lipstick, if you use a lip primer, it’ll ensure that you get a smooth canvas. It also helps in your lipstick staying on longer.
Lip Masks To The Rescue
Just like your skin needs some extra TLC sometimes, your lips do too. So twice a week use a nourishing lip mask especially in the winter so that they look plumper and more hydrated. Your matte lipstick will also sit better on even lips when you do.
Ready, set, pout!
