The colour of your bridal mehendi is directly proportional to how much your husband loves you! Darker the colour, more the love! Well, though we don’t have any way of knowing whether or not there is any truth to this age-old belief, what we do know are some really cool tips, or let’s say desi nuskhas to give you that much-desired dark bridal mehendi colour. Check them out.
1. Apply eucalyptus oil beforehand
Before the mehendi application starts, apply a generous amount of eucalyptus oil on your hands and feet. The oil helps darken the colour of your mehendi and it smells pretty awesome too!
2. Nimbu-cheeni mixture, with a twist!
You all know of the famous nimbu-cheeni hack, right? But did you know that if you slightly heat this mixture and let it cool before you apply it on your hands, it gives much better results? Well, trust us and try it for once.
3. Clove fumes for that gorgeous colour
Heat a few cloves (laung) in a pan and run your mehendi hands carefully over the fumes. Don’t go too close to the pan, though! This will make your mehendi really dark. You can either scrape off the mehendi after this, or keep it on for a couple of more hours.
4. Vicks cures mehendi too…
Yes, yes it does! After you scrape the dry mehendi off, apply a layer of Vicks balm over your hands and feet. Cover them up with a cloth and let the vicks and the warmth work its magic. Do keep it on for a few hours for best results.
5. Foundation to the rescue
We bet not many of you knew this, but applying a little foundation on your mehendi after you take it off also makes it super dark. No harm trying, we say!
6. Time it well…
Time is the key when it comes to henna giving off a beautiful colour. The longer you keep it on, the darker the colour will be. Since your bridal mehendi is special and you want it to turn out beautifully, you should keep it on for at least 6-8 hours.
7. Go the ‘no-soap-way’ for 12 hours
At least 12 hours, because washing your hands with soap will make it fade away in portions and thus look really bad.
P.S. Shaving or waxing scrapes off the upper layer of your skin, thus making your mehendi colour lighter! Avoid a trip to the salon if you don’t want to lighten the colour of your mehendi.
Try these desi nuskhas and we’re sure your mehendi will turn out super dark and pretty!
