Dekho Chand Aaya: 10 Times Sonam Kapoor Had Us Smitten With Her Traditional Looks

More than a decade since the release of her first film and still no disputing the fact that Sonam Kapoor has been B-town’s numero uno fashionista. It is as if she made her cinematic entry wearing that crown, carried it effortlessly all this while, and hasn’t once kept it aside. Be it her avant-garde red carpet appearances, casual Bhaane OOTDs or aesthetic boho-chic looks, trust Sonam to never disappoint you with her fashion choices.

While we have always loved her Indian picks, it was only during her wedding that she absolutely knocked us over with her traditional choice of clothing. Since then, Sonam has been opting for a lot of traditional numbers for personal as well as professional outings and each one of them has our heart for their Indianness as well as the unique appeal that Sonam brings with her individualistic style.

As Sonam celebrates her 35th birthday today, we have thus decided to celebrate her impeccable style with a round-up of some of her best traditional looks so far. All set to get your fashion fill for the day? Scroll through!

Top 10 Traditional Looks Of Sonam Kapoor

While most Bollywood brides opt for big, well-known designers for their wedding outfits, Sonam had everyone surprised by her unusual choice as she opted for a red and gold Anuradha Vakil lehenga. Vakil as a designer has prowess in textiles and Sonam, by opting for a lotus motif lehenga that highlighted its fabric and the vermilion hue, made for a quintessential Indian bride.

Sonam’s Abu Jani Sandeel Khosla chikankari lehenga that she wore for her mehendi ceremony is every bit iconic as well. The lehenga had kalis dipped in hues of white and pastel pinks and took 18 months to complete. Plus, that backless choli has to have a separate fan following of its own. Check it out!

Also, we are so not forgetting the time when Sonam took her traditional aesthetics to Cannes and got Ralph & Russo to customise her red carpet outfit the Indian way:

Doesn’t this purple and gold Jayanti Reddy lehenga remind you of Madhuri Dixit from Hum Aapke Hain Koun? Us too!

The curious case of Sonam, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, and unbelievably opulent lehengas – part infinity!

“I’m a very traditional dresser and I prefer traditional sarees, they are my favourite,” says Sonam and lives it in this gorgeous Kanjeevaram saree by Neeru’s Indian Ethnics.

That time when Sonam conjured some old-world charm in her printed Raw Mango saree:

Sonam was indeed a vision in pink when she graced the stage for Abhinav Mishra’s Mehzabeen collection and glittered brighter than the glasswork lehenga donned by her!

The foil print Anarkali by Masaba, that red bindi, and Sonam Kapoor! We’ll just leave it there.

Tell us this is a picture of Madhubala from the premiere of Mughal-E-Azam and we’d blindly trust you. That iconic! “Pyaar kiya to darna kya,” captioned the birthday girl while posing just like Anarkali.
