The fashion industry is notorious for peddling the idea that it is a sin to be seen in the same clothes twice. But let’s face it, buying new outfits for every occasion is expensive and it isn’t sustainable. A wiser choice, then, is to build a wardrobe that has versatile pieces that can be worn multiple times. Our Bollywood celebrities stand by this mantra and they have rebelled against the rules of fashion.
From Deepika Padukone to Alia Bhatt, here are seven times Bollywood celebs have proudly re-worn their outfits.
1. Deepika Padukone
In her latest Diwali post, Deepika Padukone shared a picture where she wore a red salwar-kurta. Quite interestingly, this isn’t the first time we have seen her don this red dupatta. The actress wore this dupatta in 2018 when she returned to India after her Lake Como wedding.
2. Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt wore a gorgeously embroidered ivory and gold Sabyasachi saree for her wedding in 2022. The actor chose to wear this saree once again when she received the National Film Award in October 2023 for her role in Gangubai Kathiawadi.
3. Sushmita Sen
In 2005, Sushmita Sen appeared on Koffee With Karan along with Sanjay Dutt. She wore a stunning golden saree. Fast forward to 2023, the actor was seen wearing the same saree at Shilpa Shetty’s Diwali party.
4. Genelia D’Souza
For her wedding, Genelia D’Souza wore a heavily embroidered red lehenga. Right after Riteish and Genelia’s wedding in 2012, Riteish’s brother, Dhiraj, tied the knot. The actress chose the same lehenga with the same blouse.
5. Gauri Khan
At Isha Ambani’s wedding in 2018, Gauri Khan wore a red saree by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. The red saree had golden sequins that were laid down in a chevron pattern. She paired it with a golden blouse. In 2019, she wore that saree once again for a family function.
6. Sonali Bendre
In an Instagram post dating back to May 2022, Sonali Bendre shared two pictures where she wore the same white salwar and churidar. She wrote, “Then and now pics are my favorite! It shows me how much has changed yet some things haven’t… like me fitting into an old outfit – I wore this 16 years ago, during my first trimester while carrying @rockbehl. And here I’m in the same outfit in 2022. Super happy that in this regard not much has changed.”
7. Janhvi Kapoor
In August this year, Janhvi Kapoor wore a purple half-saree when she visited the Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh. Interestingly, she wore the same outfit to Karan Johar’s Dhanteras puja.
Maybe we all will start receiving less flak for repeating outfits now that celebs have started following the sustainable route.
