Stefan Salvatore is Damon Salvatore in real life. Yes, you read that right. For as long as I can remember, I have had this weird fascination with Vampires. Probably because the supernatural romance genre was my thing, or just that Edward and Bella won my impressionable heart as a new teenager. I’ve read and followed plenty of vampire-related content over the years. Yes, even Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani as well. So trust me when I say this, ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ is timeless.
Call it the mystical allure of the Mystic Falls or the enduring fascination towards the Salvatore Brothers, The Vampire Diaries has kept its audience enchanted since its inception. The Salvatore Brothers, in particular, played by actors Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder, have sustained a loyal fanbase of people who only recognise the actors as Stefan and Damon Salvatore and nobody else. As tempting as Damon’s intensity was, a part of me yearned for an old-school romantic like Stefan.
Six years back, the final episode of the series premiered, concluding the story in the most dramatic fashion. I won’t deny the show lost its flavour in the later seasons. But the first few seasons are my comfort watch any day. Salvatore Brothers and their complicated love triangle with Elena is a booze you can’t help but be drawn towards. Their clashing personalities, endless disagreements, and scarred history, rooted in love and bloodshed, made for perfect BROmance sequences. It’s almost like a guilty pleasure.
And that is why it becomes insane when you realise the actors are nothing like the characters they play but the characters they don’t play. Simply put, they are each other’s real-life selves on the show. At least, that’s what you infer when you watch viral reels of Paul Wesley on a loop.
