9 Dark & Disturbing Thriller Shows That We Love Despite All Odds
Here’s a list of nine psychological and crime thriller series that revolves around bad guys who have a penchant for all things wrong:
Killing Eve
This crime thriller is about a spy, Eve (Sandra Oh), who has to arrest the notorious psychopath, Villanelle (Jodie Comer). There’s an intense mutual attraction between them and we love how they fight it to remain on the opposite sides. On a usual sunny morning, we would want the antagonist of the show to pay for her sins. But, in Villanelle’s case, we are left in awe every time she deceives death.

Dexter
It is not easy to make an entire show around a cold sociopath who likes to brutally kill bad guys for fun. We will give it to the creators of the series for making their dark and twisted protagonist, Dexter Morgan (Michael Hall) so intriguing. Also, for making us understand his effed-up perspective and feel impressed with his smartness.
Where to watch: Voot
Mirzapur
We don’t know who needs to hear this, but Guddu bhaiya (Ali Fazal) is as bad as Munna bhaiya (Divyendu Sharma) and Kaleen bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi). Yes, all three of them kill for their own benefits and are grade A criminals. While we do see the former as the ‘hero’ of the show and hope that he gets his revenge, we need to acknowledge that in the end, everyone in Mirzapur is really messed up.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime
Pushpavalli
Sumukhi Suresh plays the titular role in this series and oh boy, she’s one twisted woman! She is obsessive, has anger issues, is a compulsive liar and a big-time stalker. She falls in love with a guy, who doesn’t love her back, and that causes her to lose her shiz big time. These are major red flags and yet, we cannot help but feel sorry every time her heart gets broken. Well, she’s the only one to be blamed for her condition and we hope that she finally finds a healthy relationship to be in.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime
Bates Motel
This show is creepy AF and we’re not exaggerating at all. It is a prequel to Hitchcock’s movie, Psycho, and features one of the most iconic fictional serial killers, Norman Bates. During the seasons, we witness his mental health deteriorating for the worse and his devoted mother trying her best to protect him. This series is going to make you feel highly uncomfortable and you would not know how to feel exactly for days.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime
Paatal Lok
This show is not for the faint-hearted viewers and it’s quite deep and intense. It’s about a cynical cop, Hathiram Choudhary (Jaideep Ahlawat), and a bunch of criminals who have some dark perceptions about the materialistic world. You really need to watch this one with an open mind.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime
Mindhunter
If getting invested in the lives of psychopaths is your guilty pleasure, then you cannot miss Mindhunter. FBI agent, Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), meets several serial killers and tries to understand their damaged psyches. These killers are based on real-life criminals and that’s what makes this entire series so creepy.
Where to watch: Netflix
Squid Game
I’m just going to go ahead and say it—every single person in Squid Game is a killer. Hundreds of contestants willingly participate in a game knowing very well that their victory would result in someone else’s death. They do it to survive in society and that makes the entire plot even more screwed up. Who’s the actual villain in the show after all? The players, the red suit soldiers, the VIP members, the makers of the game, or their society?
Where to watch: Netflix
Aarya
This Emmy nominated show is about a caring mother, loyal wife and a mafia queen. And, all three of them is Aarya Sareen, played by Sushmita Sen. She takes over her husband’s illegal business to survive in this big bad world and it’s thrilling to watch her being all badass.
Where to watch: Hotstar
Well, while we love to hate these shows and their villains (or heroes?), we really hope that we never meet them IRL.
