Body positivity still remains an elusive concept for Bollywood films and fashion magazines. They tend to constantly push the idea that beauty comes in a specific size and anything else isn’t good enough. But thanks to social media, people are now beginning to see how there is more to beauty than these problematic standards set by the film and fashion industry.
It is because of creators like Tanvi Geetha Ravishankar aka @thechubbytwirler that women are now beginning to realise how beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. The plus-size model and body-positive activist has been creating kickass content that never fails to strike a chord. The internet is in awe of her confidence and so are we!
Recently, Tanvi once again took Instagram by storm after recreating Deepika Padukone’s dance moves in the song “Besharam Rang” from Pathaan. This video is currently going viral on social media and for good reason. The influencer is being praised for acing the dance steps and re-creating the moves with as much elan as Deepika. The best part? Her stylish swimsuit. It reminds us of Deepika’s look from the song and Tanvi has def killed it in the styling department. Here, have a look!
In an old interview, Tanvi revealed how she wasn’t always this confident, especially while wearing a swimsuit. She expressed how she had to build the courage to get into the pool because she was oversized in a conversation with a popular media portal. “It’s just that for years, I used to not find swimwear my size and it would be such a nerve-wracking thing to just go to the pool. Because I had to wear old dad T-shirts or long tights, to enjoy the waters. On the other hand, I would see my peers looking so pretty in the pool and enjoying and having fun,” shared Tanvi.
In the interview, Tanvi also addressed how women face more body shaming and fat guilt than men do. She added that although it might take time, women should try to move past these barriers of beauty created by society. “Have you ever seen men who have a beer belly? Do you ever see them feeling shy while entering the pool? They don’t! So, then why should we. Why are we so concerned about ‘oh what will they think?’ I say just go for it and wear what you like,” she concluded.
Well, truer words have not been spoken. So, kudos to Tanvi for helping women realise that beauty comes in all shapes. You go, girl!
