Did the viral all-pink-everything-celeb outfits convince you to embrace Barbiecore yet? I am for sure on board and frantically hoping that Zara drops its Barbie special collection in India soon! Full disclaimer though—this has less to do with the upcoming Barbie movie and more to do with my obsession with the cutesy garments and the colour pink. But wait till I tell you when did it really start.
Remember the frenzy that Kareena Kapoor aka Poo’s looks caused after Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’s release? Yea, that was the real shiz. If you think about it, Poo made Bebo the real mother of Barbiecore. Lemme explain!
Poo Bani Barbie!
More than two decades since K3G was released and Poo continues to be one of the most iconic characters in Indian cinema. Her rizz, the exaggerated mannerisms, her obsession with fashion—everything set Bebo apart in the film. Her screen presence was undeniable and her impact on the audience was everlasting much like Barbie.
Since its 1959 launch, Barbie has been synonymous with a woman who can do it all. She can dress head to toe in a glittery ensemble while doing household chores. She can wear an oversized floral choker while giving an office presentation. She can wear a solid bodycon under her doctor’s coat. Barbie can do everything and Poo was a real-life manifestation of the Mattel doll. She wore risque outfits while she managed to accomplish the most crucial task in the film—reuniting Rahul and Rohan! She wasn’t just an arm candy but a woman with a big heart and a brilliant mind. Most importantly, she dressed exactly like Barbie. Here’s how:
Pink Perfection
Poo’s glittery pink crop top and leather mini outfit was a moment! From the way she proudly declared “it’s backless” to the styling, everything about it was top-notch. Take a moment and imagine a Barbie wearing the exact same fit. Super easy to place the two together, right? Oh, but let’s not forget about her pink handbag, that fur stole, and the pink leather jacket. It gave Barbie and how!
A1 Accessories
Poo sported floral chokers and matching sunnies with a lot of her looks. I have legit had Barbie dolls with exact same accessories. Try telling me this wasn’t a Barbie-inspired look and I’d fight you to death!
Bellbottom Belle
Poo started a lot of trends and flared pants were the biggest one from the lot. Be it her embroidery sharara or slitted leather pants, everything came with some extra flare and drama. Interestingly, Barbie dolls too made bellbottoms cool and wore the silhouette for years at end. Coincidence? I don’t think so!
Safe to say, no one has been able to hit this level of perfection with Barbiecore. Bebo, you icon!
