The Night Manager on Disney+ hotstar is an Indian adaptation of the British TV show of the same name. Actors Aditya Roy Kapur and Anil Kapoor step into the shoes of Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in this spy thriller. I have to say, it’s one of the best Hindi series I’ve seen in a while.
The show follows the night manager of a hotel who is recruited to infiltrate the inner circle of an arms dealer. With only four episodes, it ends on a cliffhanger, leaving you with many unanswered questions. Check out the trailer:
If you enjoy a gripping plot, The Night Manager should be your weekend companion! Scroll down to know why it’s a great binge. Psst..spoilers ahead
ARK Is Showing So Much More Than His Hot Bod!
So far, Aditya Roy Kapur hasn’t got roles that could use his full potential as an actor. According to me, up until now, he was just eye candy. But with this show, he has proved that he is a phenomenal actor! He plays the role of Shaan Sengupta, aka the night manager who works at a posh hotel in Bangladesh. When he meets a 14-year-old Muslim girl from Lucknow, who is trapped in a marriage with a man much older than her, his life turns upside down.
Aditya, the night manager, later transforms into a spy with such skill that it’s difficult to believe he’s the same person who played an alcoholic Aashiq. I was so engrossed in the story that even Aditya’s sculpted abs couldn’t distract me.
I will say it again, this is by far his best performance!
Anil Kapoor As An Antagonist >>>
Anil Kapoor plays Shelly Rungta, a dangerous arms dealer, and this is most likely the first time I’ve seen him in such an avatar. I could feel my heart thumping during some thrilling scenes and the show has plenty of them. Anil has portrayed his character so well that you may find yourself rooting for the anti-hero in the middle of the show.
A Stellar Supporting Cast!
The Night Manager is one of those rare series in which the supporting cast outperforms the main actors. Tillotama Shome, who plays a vital role, literally walks away with the show. Her act appears so natural that she will make you feel every emotion she portrays.
Saswata Chatterjee also impresses as a homosexual man. It was refreshing to see a homosexual character in a negative role.
While every supporting actor did an excellent job, I wish Sobhita Dhulipala had a bit more to offer. However, there are many unanswered questions surrounding her, as well as many layers that haven’t been revealed. I’m hoping to see another side of this character in Part 2, which is all set to release in June 2023!
The Gripping Plot!
I’m confident that this series will succeed because it has a compelling plotline that kept me on the edge of my seat. I’m not a binge-watcher, but my curiosity drove me to watch the entire series in one sitting! Every episode leaves you wondering, “What next?” It was almost frustrating when the show ended on a cliffhanger. I now have to wait for four months! It’s been a while since a show has kept me this intrigued.
The Exotic Locations!
This show takes you from one hotel in Bangladesh to the snowy mountains of Shimla and then to the picturesque beaches of Sri Lanka. The stunning locations show how much effort went into making of the show. Kudos to Sandeep Modi and his co-director Priyanka Ghosh for shooting each scene so smoothly in difficult locations.
The Night Manager is packed with action, suspense, nail-biting scenes, and even a bit of comedy. So if you plan to spend the 48 hours of your weekend watching a show, let it be this one.
