The Good & The Bad: 10 Looks From IIFA Awards 2022 That Need To Be Discussed

The Good & The Bad: 10 Looks From IIFA Awards 2022 That Need To Be Discussed

We at POPxo Fashion have had an interesting weekend thanks to IIFA! Held in Abu Dhabi, it was the first major Bollywood awards night since the pandemic. And while the fans cheered for their favourite stars, we had an entirely different preoccupation—fashion! From sequinned sarees to pastel gowns, we saw it all and here are ten hits and misses from IIFA Awards 2022:

The Hits

We are happy to report that red carpet fashion in India has evolved and our divas are in a very ‘everything or nothing’ kinda mood right now. Here are five looks that passed the vibe check:

Ananya Panday In Marchesa

Instagram

Ananya’s powder blue Marchesa gown is a thing of beauty. We love how a subtle draping effect has been used to give it an ethereal appeal. The angelic vibe is further accentuated with 3D flowers placed in an asymmetric pattern. If you notice closely, the straps of the gown look like green wreaths. Ananya has finished her look with clear teardrop danglers, minimal makeup, and a chignon. This, hands down is our favourite look from the lot.

Jacqueline Fernandez

Sarees on red carpets in an aesthetic that we’ll always ship and that applies to Jacqueline’s Falguni Shane Peacock saree as well. We love the pristine colour palette as well as the linear embroidery. That said, it is the intricately embellished blouse that speaks to us the most. Our fave detail here? The sheer full sleeves with scalloped hems.

Nargis Fakhri In Michael Cinco

Instagram

Cannes 2022 was proof that ‘drama’ is the Indian fashion divas modus operandi and we aren’t complaining. Nargis got the memo just right in her brilliant Michael Cinco ball gown. The hand-painted garment was done in vivid shades of greens on a black tulle base. The sweetheart neckline was embellished with grass green crystals and Nargis finished the look in matching emerald earrings and cat eyes. Score!

Nora Fatehi In Michael Cinco

Instagram

We feel Nora doesn’t get enough credit for the amount of glamm she brings to the table. Take, for instance, her cobalt Michael Cinco gown. From the thigh-high slit to the plunging neckline, everything about this fit screams Nora Fatehi. We also have our mouths watering for the sparkling Cinderella shoes by Christian Louboutin. It’s everything that iconic red carpet looks are made of.

The Misses

The wardrobe fails contribute to interesting red carpets as much as the stellar ones do. On that note, here are five looks from IIFA 2022 that missed the mark:

Aishwarya Rai In Rohit Bal

Twitter

Okay, we don’t hate this look on Aishwarya but we do not love it either. The entire idea of this standing collar velvet coat is kinda interesting tbh. It is the length of the garment that we have a problem with though. The panelled jacket over the skirt look feels kinda dated and we feel Aishwarya deserves something grander.

Urvashi Rautela In Michael Cinco

Instagram

Again, this is not a bad look. The only problem is that exaggerated cape sleeves have been done to death at this point. Plus, we aren’t big fans of how this gown has been styled. The jewels feel too much and the parting isn’t working either.

Sara Ali Khan In Aadnevik

Instagram

Flouncy asymmetrical gowns fall in the tricky territory and only a few know how to carry them right. Sadly, Sara Ali Khan is not one of them. Plus, we don’t exactly love the strapless bodice of this Aadnevik gown. A lot has been happening in a limited space and the silver embellishments just do not work.

Lara Dutta Bhupati In Gavin Miguel

Instagram

From the jewel hue to the cut, we love everything about this Gavin Miguel gown. The only problem? It looks exactly like Helly Shah’s Ziad Nakad gown that she wore for her Cannes debut. What’s happening?

Genelia Deshmukh In Custom Made Maison Ava

Instagram

Now, here’s a fit that we do not have two minds about. It’s downright bad. There is nothing new about the bodice and the skirt and well, it’s an abomination. It is specifically the silver crystals that stand out as an eye sore for us. Nope, just no.
