Historically, the world got to know about Thanksgiving through a journal of Plymouth, Massachusetts governor, William Bradford. In his diary, he explained how a bunch of pilgrims moved from England and tried to settle in Plymouth where they could practice their own religious beliefs. Hale wrote several letters to five Presidents of America and finally, lobbied Abraham Lincoln to declare the day as a national holiday in 1863.
