On-screen intimate sequences garner the most number of views and raise the most eyebrows at the same time. It is a welcome change to see the Indian entertainment industry experimenting with its perfect portrayal of intimacy lately instead of hiding it behind flowers and birds. Case in point: Tamannaah Bhatia’s newest release, Jee Karda.
Tamannaah recently made headlines for going all out with sensual scenes in her Prime Originals show, Jee Karda. While some lauded the actress for her stellar performance, many objected to her ‘topless sex scene’ with her on-screen partner, Suhail Nayyar. From questioning her sanskaars to labelling her role as ‘disgusting and shitty’, trolls had all kinds of comments to make. Amidst all the backlash, Tamannaah has now spoken about her experience of shooting intimate scenes for the show.
For the unversed, Tamannaah broke her 18-year-long no-kissing policy with Jee Karda! She credited the Jee Karda’s director Arunima Sharma for making it easy for her and shared, “These scenes are very instrumental in order to tell the journies of these people. So, in no capacity, these are there to titillate or grab eyeballs. Especially, when you show a relationship drama, this is such an important aspect of it because it is the truth. Whether people like it or not, this is how it is. Suhail was someone who really made me feel comfortable. There was really no resistance from Suhail or me to kind of get into Lavanya and Rishabh (their characters in Jee Karda).”
Calling the show’s director an ‘intimacy instructor, Tamannaah added, “I think we both understood that these people (the characters) know each other in a way that maybe in their lives, nobody else would know them so deeply so the physicality of us even in a non-intimate scene was as if we were like one unit.”
Suhail has also talked about the scene by revealing how Tamannaah came to his rescue when he got nervous before shooting intimate scenes. “Tamannaah made me feel so comfortable, I was like, ‘Oh my God!, how I am gonna do this’, and she told me ‘I am really nervous’ and I was like ‘You are nervous’,” he shared.
All About Jee Karda
The series revolves around the lives of seven childhood friends who are trying their best to sail through life while terribly failing at it sometimes. While the characters of Lavanya (Tamannaah), Rishabh (Suhail Nayyar), and Arjun (Aashim Gulati) are stuck in a complicated love triangle, the other friends are hanging right on the edge of self-conflicts and giving up on life.
