Sushmita Sen has been shattering norms from the moment she won the Miss Universe title in 1994. From empowering others with her words to uplifting her contemporaries, she’s been a force. Her brightest moment came when she decided to adopt Renee in 2000 and Alisah in 2010. Since their adoption, the Taali actress has been raising her daughters single-handily and never made them feel like they need a father figure in their lives. But is she willing to get married and fill that space in her daughters’ lives? Well, we finally have an answer.
Sushmita recently appeared for an interview with Siddharth Kanan and had a heartfelt conversation with him. Amidst their chat, Siddarth asked Sushmita if her daughters miss having a father figure in their lives. To this, she replied that you only miss what you have. She replied, “Not at all. Because, they don’t have a father figure. You only miss what you have. If you have never had it.. the concept is… Now when I suggest to them that I should get married, they will be like, ‘What? For what? I don’t want a father’. But I may want a husband, it may have nothing to do with you! So we joke about that a lot. They don’t miss a father. They have Tata, my father and their grandfather. That is everything for them. Anytime they need to have a father figure and a great example, he is the man.”
Why Sushmita Never Got Married
In an interview with Twinkle Khanna, Sushmita once revealed why she never got married. She said, “Luckily I met some very interesting men in my life, the only reason I never got married is because they were a let down. It had nothing to do with my kids. My kids were never in the equation. If at all, they have been very gracious. Both my kids have accepted people in my life with open arms, never made a face. They have given everybody equal measure of love and respect. It’s the most beautiful thing to watch.“
She further added, “I came close to getting married thrice, all three times God saved me. I can’t tell you what disasters followed with their respective lives. God protected me, also because God is protecting these two kids, he can’t let me get into a messy affair.“
