Sunscreen In Your Morning Skincare Routine, Here’s How You Do The Layering Right

Even if you don’t subscribe to the meticulous multi-step skincare regimen that Koreans swear by, you probably use various products in your morning routine. Applying the right products in the right order is essential to prevent negating the advantages, even if it’s only a simple moisturiser and an SPF.

Applying your products from lightest or thinnest to heaviest or thickest is the best basic rule. Oils and sunscreen are the exceptions. Even if they appear liquidy, oils should be applied last, directly before the sunscreen, which should also be applied last. Scroll through to find out when to apply sunscreen during your morning routine.

When To Apply Sunscreen In Your Morning Skincare Routine?

Let the list below be your layering guide, assuming you’ve already cleansed your face. But if you’re not using everything here, don’t spiral. Simply arrange the products you do use according to the order.

Step 1: Toner Or Essence

Start with a product that is as fluid as water. This prepares the skin for the next stage and enables the thin fluid to penetrate deeply into the skin. Since water is a great solvent, having moist skin creates more routes for product absorption.

Step 2: Serum

Serums are the workhorse of skincare treatments since they typically include potent chemicals that can significantly alter the skin. So that the skin can absorb as much of the product as possible, it is important to apply them as soon as feasible.

Step 3: Lotion

While some lotions are on the thicker, heavier side, most formulas are rather thin (and which you choose comes down to personal preference). If your skin is especially dry, though, you might want to apply it before cream or oil.

Step 4: Cream

Generally speaking, creams that are thicker rely more on waxy ingredients to form a barrier that retains moisture. Creams really retain moisture in.

Step 5: Oil

This is your sealant. Oils serve as a barrier protector, effectively keeping moisture inside and undesirable elements outside. However, compared to a thick cream with glycerin or hyaluronic acid, they only slightly increase hydration. Secondly, they instantly soften your skin, leaving it feeling silky smooth.

Step 6: SPF Is Your BFF

Hey, hello! The final step in your skincare routine is applying SPF. Regardless of whether you like a thin or thick formulation, sunscreen should always be applied last. In order to protect the skin, it creates a homogeneous film on top of it. You risk damaging the film and allowing the sun to enter if you apply anything other than makeup on top.
