Attention K-pop lovers, we have the most exciting update for you! The Korean pop genre has gotten its first-ever Indian star and we can’t keep calm. An 18-year-old singer from Odisha, Sriya Lenka, was chosen to be one of the new group members of the K-pop group called Blackswan. She was picked as the newest member of the group along with a Brazilian girl, Gabriela Dalcin.
The announcement was shared on Blackswan’s agency DRmusic Entertainment Official’s Instagram handle with a sweet note for Gabriela and Sriya. The caption reads, “Sriya and Gabi were finally selected as members of blackswan after participating the global audition program for last 6 months. With their debut, we will be back with the new blackswan.”
Sriya emerged as the winner of DR Music’s global auditions to find the fifth member of the idol group Blackswan. Last year she was selected for the final leg of training in Seoul and her dedication and hard work made her the first Indian K-pop star. BRB, just going to wipe out tears of joy!
The new Blackswan member is trained in Odissi classical dance as well as freestyle, hip-hop and contemporary dance and is a huge K-pop fan. During the 2020 lockdown, Sriya got really invested in the Korean language and culture. That’s how she got introduced to Blackswan and the rest as they say is history.
South Korean girl music band Blackswan started as a five-member girl music group from South Korea. The group made its debut in 2020 and it featured Korean signers namely Youngheun, Fatou, Judy, Leia and Hyeme. However, in November 2020, Hyeme was involved in a cheating scandal and she was accused of scamming a friend. This caused a massive social media outrage and post which the music label announced that she will be leaving the group.
After Hyeme departed from the group, a global hunt for the next K-pop star was launched and two talented young women made their way to the group. What a journey this has been for Gabi and Sriya!
NGL, we are hella excited to see Sriya in a Blackswan video. Here’s wishing the young star all the best for this new and exciting journey.
