Sonam Kapoor is an actor with strong opinions, and she isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Every time Soman feels strongly about an issue, she takes to social media to share her thoughts. This, however, means that she’s often at the receiving end of hate from trolls who don’t like a woman with an opinion.
After the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, there was an uproar by fans about nepotism in the industry. They blamed Sushant’s death on star kids alienating him, and began to ruthlessly attack these actors online, including leaving rape and death threats. And no matter how thick-skinned you are, such comments are bound to have an effect on you.

In a recent interview with a news publication, Sonam has opened up about receiving a massive amount of online hate, and how negatively it affected her. “I had some stressful times in the last three or four months, mentally. There is a lot of stuff that happens on social media, there is a lot of hate and talk about a lot of things. It put me in a very low and negative space. But now I am much better.”
Sonam had also temporarily disabled comments on her Instagram handle to keep trolls at bay, because the hate really began to affect her. In June, a few days after Sushant’s death, the Neerja actor shared screenshots of some of the hateful messages she had received, several of which wished death for her future children.
“Yes I’ve switched off my comment section and my parents’ comment section because I don’t want my 64-year-old parents to go through this. They did nothing to deserve this. And I’m not doing it out of fear you morons I’m doing it out of common sense to preserve my mental health and my parents,” she wrote, sharing the screenshots of Instagram.

Meanwhile, it really does seems like Sonam is in a better place now. Ever since the pandemic hit, she has been quarantining with her husband Anand Ahuja, first at his family’s house in Delhi, and now in London. The couple often share mushy pictures and videos of each other, leaving their fans swooning.
We’re glad Sonam is feeling better, and now it is our time to do better. Star kid or not, we’re all human, so let’s try to be kinder to each other, online and in real-life. You never know how your mindless words can affect someone.
