The fashion world is unpredictable. You never know when a trend might just go viral, and before you can fathom it, it might even go out of style. Recently, model and actress Sonam Bajwa was spotted at an awards function in a rather unique OOTN. She flaunted her hourglass figure in a blue-coloured, 3D printed, bodycon wet-look dress. At an event that was attended by many big names in Bollywood, it was Sonam’s outfit that went viral in no time!
What Is The Wet Dress Trend?
While Sonam’s dress was from the Syndical Chamber‘s wet couture, Di Petsa pioneered the “wet look” concept. Previously, the style was associated with the sexual objectification of women, but Di Petsa gave the look a whole new meaning by redistributing power to the women who could slay the look and emphasise the female form in the most positive ways.
Meaning Behind The Trend
The sensual designs were made with the goal of allowing women to take sexy into their own hands, encouraging them to embrace their sexuality in whichever way they see fit. Petsa was looking into the connection between women’s bodies and their fluids. Women who sweat, cry, or breastfeed in public must cover it up. But why is this so? The designer wanted women to feel comfortable in their skin, wet or dry.
The top fashion divas swiftly embraced this trend, such as Kim Kardashian‘s Thierry Mugler wet look at the 2019 Met Gala, Bella Hadid simply donning Di Petsa’s wet look mini on her summer vacation, and Gigi Hadid choosing it for her maternity photoshoot.
Are These Wet Dresses Actually Wet?
Well, these wet-look dresses are actually dry. Their soaked appearance is thanks to a textile technique that Petsa developed by hand five years ago. It took her six months to develop and create this technique. Using 3D printing, the dress is given the illusion of being wet! Crazy, right?
If you want to embrace the “wet dress” trend yourself, all you need is a few thousand dollars! *soaks dress in my tears*
