5 Skincare Rituals I Will Follow Before & During My Flight

I never enjoyed flying. Not just because I binge-watched Manifest on Netflix, but because of what planes do to my skin. Though an altitude of 30,000 feet is a treat to the eyes, it’s not fun for the skin.

With wedding season in full swing and celebrities flying off to different destinations, I’m sure they have an in-flight skincare ritual to ensure there are no breakouts. If I were on the guest list (a girl can dream), here’s how I would do my skincare to prep for a destination wedding. Because I’m certainly not travelling to an exotic location with anything less than glowy, acne-free skin.

Makeup Would Be Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind

Makeup can clog the pores and lead to flare-ups and in flights, the probability increases. I would double-cleanse my face with an oil-based and water-based cleanser before leaving for the airport. The Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm would remove all that build-up from the skin. And then I would go for a regular cleanser.

I’d Make Sunscreen My Pre-Flight Partner

If my flight is during the day, I would sunproof my skin with a light, non-greasy sunscreen before boarding. Those windows aren’t U.V-proof and I’d be more susceptible to developing sunburns — possibly even skin cancer if I fly frequently.

The POPxo Beach Bum Ultra-Light Sunscreen Spray SPF 50 would be my pick because it’s in the form of a spray and doesn’t feel heavy or oily on my skin.

Moisturising Would Be My First Inflight Instinct

Since humidity drops to a whole-new low of 20% in the cabin, the artificially-created pressure and recycled air would mean doomsday for my skin. But a Glycerin or Hyaluronic Acid-infused moisturiser can help prevent this.

The REEQUIL Ceramide and Hyaluronic Acid Moisturiser Cream For Hydration contains both ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid, which moistures my skin inside out. It’s also non-comedogenic and that’s a win for the skin.

And Reserve A Separate Seat For My Eye Cream

When flying, the altitude decreases blood flow to the face which leads to water retention around the eyes, making them puffy. And I have puffy, dark under-eyes anyway.

I counter this with a caffeine-infused under-eye cream or serum. MCaffeine’s Coffee Under Eye Cream treats puffiness and pigmentation effortlessly and comes with stainless steel eye-roller that feels cool on the skin.

Masking Would Also Be On The List

A cooling, aloe or cucumber-infused sheet mask rehydrates my skin for 15 minutes straight. The POPxo Fresh Start Deep Moisturising Cucumber Sheet Mask calms redness and inflammation instantly. And it makes my skin look naturally glazed and dewy.

I’m pretty sure celebrities do the same. Because how do you look that stunning even after de-boarding a plane?
