A Skincare Routine That’s Perfect For Every Twenty-Something Girl

If you’re a 90s baby then, first of all, you’re cool AF and secondly, you’re approaching your thirties soon (literally not something anyone wants to read on a Friday!). But that’s not bad because it means that you’re getting wiser and aging like fine wine. So, cheers to that.

What is it about the big thirty that scares us so much? Is it the fact that we’re entering a new decade or that signs of aging will start to show up on our faces (mine’s latter!). Did you know that the first signs of sun damage start to show up in your early 30s?  As long as you’re taking good care of your skin in your 20s, there’s absolutely no need to worry.

Good Skin In Your 30s Begins In Your 20s

Skincare is overhyped and for all the right reasons. As we enter our wiser years, remember that the condition of the skin in your thirties will reflect to the skincare you practised in your twenties. So if you want to enter a new decade of your life looking fresh and fab, start incorporating these products into your skincare routine.

We said it before and we’ll say it again- make SPF your BFF. Unless you wish to sport premature signs of aging, do not skip wearing your sunscreen. A good sunscreen will not only protect you from irreversible skin damage but it will also help repair and undo old skin damage.

Gentle Cleansers

We love washing and exfoliating our skin, don’t we? But you may not even realize this until it’s too late but your favourite cleansing technique might be secretly damaging your skin! Thanks to every beauty influencer on Instagram, we now know tons of ways to cleanse our faces- exfoliators, scrubs and even sonic exfoliators.

Do not follow the herd and stick to your good old cleansing solution or find one that has the goodness of natural oils. If you love to double cleanse, stay away from scrubs that contain granules as they can cause micro-tears on our skin. Use chemical exfoliants instead, they will gently buff off any dead skin cells without damaging the health of your skin.

Just do not forget to moisturize afterwards.

Facial Serums

There’s nothing quite as nice as a facial serum. It provides your skin with essential active ingredients and has the ability to penetrate deeper into your skin — as compared to your moisturiser. So it’s definitely a skincare product worth investing in. Pick your ingredient based on your concerns. Green tea serums are great for hydration, vitamin C serums work well for brightening, exfoliating serums help to get rid of dull skin, and vitamin A serums (retinol) help with anti-ageing.

Trust me when I say this, drinking 8 (or more) glasses of water is not sufficient to hydrate your skin. You need to moisturize your skin daily to keep it hydrated because skin thirst is real.

A facial mist is also a good idea!

Eye Creams And Patches

Here’s a fun fact – the skin around our eyes is the thinnest and therefore, more prone to showing signs of aging! Using a hydrating eye cream twice daily is a good start.

Another way to ensure your under-eye area stays hydrated is by using gel patches once a day. They hydrate, depuff and soothe the skin under your eyes. You should also use your facial serums and dab them lightly around the area around your eyes. If you wear a lot of makeup, especially eye makeup…all that tugging and powdering your concealer and eyeshadow is bound to make the skin around your eyes a little sensitive. You should invest in a good eye cream, STAT!

Facial Masks

There’s nothing a good face mask can’t fix (unless it’s your back). There are a plethora of face masks available for you to shop from that can do wonders to our skin. From pore cleaning masks to anti-ageing masks to even bubble masks. The idea is to take care of our skin with the goodness of extra care as they help moisturize, reduce scars, soothe skin, firm skin, diminishes fine lines, etc.

Exfoliating Treatments

Getting a professional treatment like a chemical peel is a great way to get rid of many skin woes such as scars, acne, hyperpigmentation, etc. You should at least get one treatment done every six months to revitalize your skin. Another (cheaper) way is by using an exfoliating product at home but you have to be VERY careful with that. Consult a dermatologist before going all in.

We hope you’re taking good care of your skin. If not, today seems like a good day to start!
