The Telugu blockbuster RRR started the year on a high note, giving India several reasons to rejoice. It was a big moment for the country as RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu‘ song won the Best Original Song award at the 80th Golden Globes. Congratulations poured in as India prepared to welcome home its very first Golden Globe.
However, as usual, some trolls found a way to dampen the moment. They attempted to take away from the monumental victory as they mercilessly mocked RRR‘s lead, Jr NTR for speaking with a non-desi accent on the Golden Globes red carpet.

Here, take a look at some of the reactions on social media:
Well, everyone mocking Jr. NTR for his accent, needs to watch this video of him speaking in Hindi:
If we remember currently, all of us ran to applaud the actor when he spoke flawless Hindi despite coming from a Telugu-speaking household. So what’s the fuss now? What is this doglapan?
Our two cents on the topic? Jr NTR has the gift of diction. The man is fluent in four languages including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and English and he speaks each one of them with equal eloquence. Isn’t that kind of a superpower? Also, it speaks so much about his commitment to perfection and respect for the crowd that he is trying to address. For somebody exploring a once-in-a-life career opportunity with Marvel, we think it is commendable of Jr NTR that he has already started preparing for the part. But more importantly, what do you mean by “wrong” accent?
As Indians, we can’t be described as native English speakers, right? So, what do we define as the “right accent”? With the advent of the internet and people travelling all over the globe, accents are overlapping and everyone is learning to be more adaptable, so we can communicate better with each other. Sadly, some of us what to cling hard to the old ways and have no regard for the sheer talent it takes to code-switch that effortlessly.
Lastly, to all the trolls still attacking Jr NTR’s accent, why don’t you’ll do something more useful with your time? Instead of hating on him, can’t we appreciate the man who is making India proud?
