Shefali Jariwala Opens Up About Her Battle With Epilepsy & We’re So Inspired!

On Bigg Boss season 13, the audience loved Shefali Jariwala for her uncomplicated nature and a go-getter attitude. Our fashion-conscious audience would also agree that Shefali was one of the most stylish contestants on season 13. And when her husband Parag Tyagi came on the show during a family special episode, fans loved the chemistry between them as the two looked ecstatic seeing each other.

After the show, the couple spoke about adopting a girl and embracing parenthood. And recently Shefali came clean about being epileptic as a child. In a recent interview with a media daily, the actress opened up about her battle with the disorder and weight gain due to medication.

The actress revealed that she had her first seizure at the age of 15. Shefali shot to fame after her music album Kaanta Laga at the age of 20 and soon after, got a lot of projects. Saying that her epilepsy medication caused her to gain weight, Shefali mentioned how she struggled to keep her energy levels rolling. “I had to keep my energy levels up and also look good on camera. That’s when I realised I need to shed a few kilos and I went to gym for the very first time, so my fitness journey started from there about 20 years ago and it has a whole new meaning today.” she said.

Shefali’s Fitness Journey

Talking about her fitness journey and how it changed her life, the Kaanta Laga girl said that, over the years, she has completely transformed her workout regime. What started 20 years ago was just something to lose weight, but now it has a different meaning altogether. She said, “I realised as a woman, especially post 30, your body really changes and so should your workout regime”.

Shefali has invested in a stationary bike at home and starts her day with cardio on an empty stomach as it really kicks up her energy level. She does Asthaan yoga three times a week, which helps her improve her flexibility and stamina. “My workout has caused me few injuries also, but the well being of mind and body is also important, that’s where yoga helped. Today, my fitness routine is a balance between weight training in the gym, Asthaan yoga and cardio,” she added.

It takes a lot of courage to speak openly about your vulnerabilities, especially if you’re a public figure. And people like Shefali give us hope and show that it’s time to end the stigma around any disorder. She embraced her condition beautifully and is one of the fittest actresses today. More power to you, Shefali. You’re an inspiration for all of us.
