When Kabir Singh released over two years ago, it reminded us of everything that’s problematic about Bollywood and our society. Are we ready to watch its sequel? Absolutely not. Are we going to change our minds in the next hundred years and watch angry Kabir and spineless Preeti’s love story all over again? LOL, you wish!
We don’t want Bollywood to come up with a sequel for the controversial movie and we defs don’t want to see a toxic character like Kabir on our screen—ever again. But somehow, it seems that we’re going to get exactly that. The official trailer of Jersey starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead role just dropped and we have so many thoughts about it. While some of them are good, some are downright scary. Take a look at this video to know what we’re talking about:
You see it too, right? The three-minute trailer is reminding us of Kabir Singh and the similarities between both the movies are plain as day. Here are the things we’re noticing and TBH, we’re quite sceptical about the film:
Is Kabir Singh Shahid’s Permanent Look Now?
Don’t take us wrong, we think Shahid can pull off any look and still be the most handsome man ever. But, we wonder if Shahid’s look in Jersey is inspired by Kabir Singh. His ruffled beard and that pain in his eyes is reminding us of his last movie’s character.
That Anger!
Oh no, here comes the anger. In the trailer, Shahid can be seen getting physically violent with other men while his lady love stands in the background as a spectator. If this scene rings any bell in your head, then same! It’s reminding us of the infamous Holi scene in Kabir Singh where the actor bashed another guy for misbehaving with his girlfriend.
Bekhayali 2.0? We Don’t Mind That
The one thing that we absolutely love about the trailer is its music. It’s quite intense, truly catchy and we think that it will be on our playlist for a long, long time. BTW, the scene where Mrunal Thakur and Shahid are enjoying a bike ride is hinting that we may hear songs like Bekhayali in this movie too.
Problematic Female Protagonist, Again!
It appears that Jersey, just like Kabir Singh, has come up with a problematic female protagonist as well. Mrunal’s character neither looks supportive of her husband’s career nor seems to respect him enough. In one of the scenes, she ends up slapping him and we sincerely hope that Bollywood does not glorify domestic violence this time.
Kabir Singh Without Drugs And Heartbreak
Imagine Kabir without drugs and heartbreak, and you may get someone like Shahid’s character in Jersey. The former was a medical prodigy while Shahid is playing the role of a sports prodigy in Jersey. Kabir consumed drugs to overcome his heartbreak and the latter seems to ignore his pain by focusing on his child.
Well, we’re not the only ones to notice these similarities and several fans have reacted similarly to the trailer. While one user commented, “Same Kabir Singh wali Story Lag Rahi Hai 😎” another wrote, “Seems like a Kabir without Drugs 😌 Btw I can feel Movie is going to be Blockbuster”
Jersey reminds us of Kabir Singh, but we are sure that it will have its own interesting storyline and plot twists. Also, Pankaj Kapoor plays an important role in the movie and we cannot wait to watch the father-son duo on the silver screen soon.
The movie is all set to release on December 31 and we hope it’s not as problematic as it looks!
