Saif Ali Khan is one of the most introverted Bollywood stars. He likes to keep to himself, doesn’t use social media, and stays away far from the limelight. But maybe that’s for a reason. In the past, Saif has made some really problematic statements. One of them just returned from the dead to bite him in the back.
Saif gave his two cents on marrying the right partner in an old video that has surfaced on social media. “I would give one piece of advice to all men that they should marry women who are younger and more beautiful than themselves,” he says in the nine-year-old interview!
In the same interaction, he claimed that marrying Kareena Kapoor was the ‘best thing’ that ever happened to him. Usually, I love it when husbands have sweet things to say about their wives but Saif’s comment was far from it.
Dear Saif, A Woman Is More Than Her Looks!
A woman is so much more than her age or physical appearance. Asking men to marry a ‘younger’ woman, simply reduces her to an object for the male gaze. When it comes to picking your partner, you should focus on how you connect with them, your compatibility, and how aligned your core values are. Your partner’s age or appearance can’t be and shouldn’t be the only deciding factor.
Saif’s statement is deeply patriarchal and sexist and I wonder how did Kareena react to it? I hope she set him straight.
Here’s hoping Saif’s stance on the subject has changed over the years. ‘Coz it is 2023 and I have no problem calling out sexist men!
