What do you get when you combine manic feminine dresses and a dreamlike set design that can put your flower garden to shame? A photo series that looks straight out of the garden of Eden! This artistic feat was achieved by Rodarte, a brand known for major romantic symbolism in their collections. Rodarte chose to skip the traditional runway show to reveal their Fall-Winter 2018 collection and instead revealed the entire lookbook on their Instagram handle.
Titled as ‘The Women Who Inspire Us’, the series features an array of trailblazing actresses, artists and activists. The campaign was shot by Autumn de Wilde in a floral-themed set to accommodate the body heavy dresses.
From actresses Kirsten Dunst (who shot in all her pregnant glory) to Tessa Thompson, the series harkens back to the recent #TimesUp movement. It is a celebration of the woman, a message from the brand that they stand in solidarity with the women speaking up against sexual harassment in the workforce.
The entire collection is a sight for sore eyes! There are frenzied tulle details sewn into embroidered bustiers and contemporary ensembles that will please lovers of all things plaid. The polka dot has also been used heavily in the designs, whether peeking through sheer overlays or being displayed loud and proud on asymmetrical dresses.
A special shoutout goes to the props and accessories used in the shoot. They elevate the appeal of the dresses in ways we didn’t think possible. Floral hair accessories to custom-made umbrellas made out of flowery vines, this work of art will leave you beaming over them.
