Bollywood legend Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30, 2020, after a long battle with cancer. It’s been a few years that we had known that Rishi Kapoor was unwell and seeking treatment in New York. Through this time, Ranbir Kapoor’s girlfriend Alia Bhatt had been extremely supportive and was welcomed by his family with open arms. The two are rumoured to be engaged and were to have an intimate, destination winter wedding at the end of the year.
While Ranbir and Alia have not confirmed their relationship or their plans to get married, Alia has always been a doting girlfriend, standing by Ranbir and his family during tough times.
While Ranbir might not have given us any insight into his private life, father Rishi Kapoor was always supportive of his relationship with Alia. He’d openly admitted his love for Alia being a part of his son’s life. In fact, in an interview with Meena Iyer, the author of Rishi’s autobiography titled Khullam Khulla, Rishi revealed that he would be absolutely supportive even if Ranbir and Alia have a very small intimate wedding.
Quoting Meena, “Rishi Kapoor said to me that he would be okay if Ranbir wanted an intimate wedding. ‘It’s their call. I am okay with 45-odd people too. I will tell my friends, well-wishers to bless them. I will apologise and explain that everyone couldn’t be invited because Ranbir is a private person. I respect his privacy.’”
Now that’s what we call a supportive parent!
Rumour has it, Rishi Kapoor also wanted to gift his to-be daughter-in-law something very special on her birthday and take the couple out for dinner.
Now that we know that the happy couple had Rishi Kapoor’s blessing, we’ll just have to wait and watch if Ranbir and Alia tie the knot this year. A big fat Indian wedding or a hush-hush private ceremony, whatever they decide, we wish them all the best!
