RIP Creativity! 5 Hindi TV Serials That Were Blatantly Copied From Bollywood Movies

Over the past decade, there has been a dearth of quality content on Indian TV. The Hindi serial makers either like to play it safe by showing the age-old saas-bahu drama or get ‘inspired’ by Bollywood movies and turn these films into serials. And then there are some producers who like to feature naagin’s and vampires, but we’d rather not get into that. From Nishabd to Jab We Met, here are 5 instances of movies being turned into TV serials. Go ahead, take a look!

Love You Zindagi

Instagram

The protagonist of Love You Zindagi is named Geet, who is a happy-go-lucky girl. She bumps into a guy named Aditya on a train who seems to be nursing a broken heart. The rich industrialist finds Geet weird at first, but something clicks between the two and they begin their journey together from Bombay to Bhatinda. We’re pretty sure that by now you’ve figured out that the show is blatantly copied from Imitiaz Ali’s hit film Jab We Met. Inspiration: 10, creativity: 0!

Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai

Instagram

You want to know what’s similar between Bidaai and the movie Vivaah? EVERYTHING! The show depicts the journey of two sisters — Ragini and Sadhna. Sadhna is beautiful which is why everyone loves her. However, Ragini faces a lot of difficulty in getting a match and is looked down upon as she is dark-skinned. We like that the series tries to shed light on the social impacts of skin colour, but there were other better ways to do so. Baring a few minor tweaks, everything is pretty much a copy of  Vivaah. RIP imagination!

Do Hanson Ka Jodaa

Enjoyed the movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi? Here’s the small screen version of the same. Just like Taani, Preeti dreams of having the perfect marriage but has to settle down for less. She is married to Suryakamal, against her wishes. However, she gradually starts falling for her husband after witnessing his caring nature. Thankfully, Suryakamal doesn’t have to put on a moustache and fool his wife in this version, however, there is a dance competition involved in the serial.

Kya Huaa Tera Vaada

Sony Liv

Biwi No. 1 was a huge hit and looks like Ekta Kapoor enjoyed the movie a tad too much as her show Kya Huaa Tera Vaada is loosely based on the movie. Pradeep and Mona are happily married for a long time. However, things change when he falls for his ex-girlfriend and decides to leave his wife. The basic plotline is the same as the movie, however, Ekta makes sure to add her signature touch of drama. Sadly, the show fails to work its magic.

Jamai Raja

Instagram

This show that was inspired (read: copied) from Anil Kapoor and Hema Malini starrer Jamai Raja, talks about the concept of a man moving into his wives’ parental home instead of the other way around. We like the progressive plot, but wish that the makers had chosen another story to talk about the issue.

Not just these, serials like Jodha Akbar, Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil and even Naagin are all copied from Bollywood movies. It’s high time the makers of Hindi TV serials show us some original and progressive content.
