Emotional Ranveer Singh Lifting The World Cup Is Basically Every Indian Crazy For Cricket

Be it his quirky dressing sense, crazy antics or his unparalleled performances, Ranveer Singh doesn’t fail to amaze us ever. If “no f*cks given” had a face, it would definitely look like baba! Well, the Gully Boy of Bollywood just wrapped up the shooting of Kabir Khan’s ‘83 and the easy-going and carefree actor surprisingly had an emotional and overwhelming moment.

In a recent interview to a national daily, the film’s director Kabir Khan revealed how Ranveer Singh broke down just after they shot the last scene. The shot demanded Ranveer to lift the World Cup trophy after the historic win. An emotional Ranveer couldn’t stop his tears the moment Khan said “cut.”

Interestingly, the last scene was shot at the same stadium (Lord’s, England) where the actual match took place, and Ranveer was given the real World Cup trophy to use in the scene.

For the uninitiated, Ranveer Singh is playing the role of legendary Kapil Dev in the movie, who single-handedly changed the course of the game by scoring 16 fours and 6 sixes. To recreate the match, the film features the sons of cricketers who played the tournament. The son of Clive Lloyd, the then captain of the England cricket team, is playing the role of Clive in the film.

Revealing another interesting anecdote from the film’s shooting, Kabir said, “Among those on the balcony was also Clive Lloyd’s son who, like Gordan Greenidge and Malcolm Marshall’s sons, is playing his father in the film. We had legends like Kapil Dev, Gavaskar to Vivian Richards dropping by. That day, Clive Lloyd, captain of the ’83 West Indian team, which had crashed to 140 all out to give Kapil us an unlikely win, was there to support his son. When we urged him to come closer, he quipped that he didn’t want to see the Cup being given away for the second time in his life.”

The film is slated to hit the screens in April next year. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer’s real-life wife, will be playing his reel life wife as well. She will essay the role of Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia in the movie.

Apart from ’83, Ranveer Singh has a number of projects lined up for the next two years. He will be seen in Karan Johar’s Takht, Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi along with Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar and in Divyang Thakkar’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar.
