Exactly ten years ago today, on December 10, Bittu Sharma said hello to with his messy hair, eccentric heart, and charming smile. And, in the past one decade, the same Bittu turned into flamboyant Ram in Goliyon Ki Raasleela, Ram-Leela, brutal Khilji in Padmaavat, and lovable Murad in Gully Boy. We are talking about none other than the Lootera of Bollywood Ranveer Singh.
Ranveer has completed 10 years in B-town (wow, time flies!) and we can safely say that we just cannot get enough of this brilliant entertainer. “I want to be remembered as a thorough entertainer and a versatile actor, whose body of work constitutes some of the best cinema of our country,” said the actor in an interview recently and we completely second the versatility part.
Talking about his decade long journey in Bollywood, the actor said in an interview recently, “Well, the biggest milestone of them all has to be when I got selected for my first film. That moment is simply unforgettable. I get goose-bumps even now when I think about it. For somebody like me, who comes from the kind of background that I do, to get such a big break was beyond my wildest imagination. These are the stuff dreams are made of (smiles). After that one incredible twist of fate, it’s been a journey of learning, growing and evolving as a creative person, a performer and also a public figure.”
There is no denying the entertainment industry has evolved significantly in the last 10 years. The audience witnessed actors changing their perspectives and adapting to unconventional movies and characters. While talking about the same, Ranveer explained that nothing was served to him on a silver platter and it wasn’t easy initially. He said, “My struggle period was not easy at all. There was recession going on at that time, and the movie business was not very prolific so, people were making fewer films. Therefore, opportunities for actors were far lesser as compared to today. We didn’t even have any of the web, or OTT platforms. So, good opportunities were hard to come by. For close to 3.5 years, I was just groping in the dark, attempting various avenues, trying to get a break, endeavouring to get my foot in the door, doing rounds of various offices with my portfolio, looking for work, but not knowing whether it will ever happen at all.”
Well, we are glad that things worked out for the best otherwise how else we could have witnessed some of Ranveer’s finest performances on-screen?
Ranveer, you truly make us believe even on our lowest days that apna time aayega!
