As we all know, Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal just hit the theatres, and though we wish we could say it has hit the ground running, we’re not so sure. The film’s plotline revolves around a father-son relationship and its inherent impact on the son. The duo we’re referring to is played by Anil Kapoor (father) and Ranbir Kapoor (son).
But even when the trailer of the movie dropped the audience inferred some large levels of violence in the film, but that isn’t the only thing fans sensed. Animal evidently seems to have a theme of hypermasculinity and rage and now that the movie is out, women everywhere are shocked at its abrasiveness.
Though, of course, this isn’t to say that the performances by Ranbir Kapoor or Bobby Deol have been compromised in any way. But the misogyny has really brought out some interesting opinions that are worth taking a hard look at:
While, at the same time, Ranbir Kapoor and Bobby Deol’s range and performances are being applauded:
Male rage can’t be a response to female rage when female rage in itself is a response to the generations of abuse women have faced.
