Priyanka Chopra Jonas dropped a major surprise bomb in January. The actress announced via social media that she and husband Nick Jonas had welcomed a baby via surrogacy. “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much,” the couple’s joint statement read.
While Priyanka has not revealed any more deets since, we are curious to find out how this new phase of life is treating her. And well, the actress has finally spilled some beans!
Priyanka co-hosted a star-studded pre-Oscars bash held in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, along with Mindy Kaling and Kumail Nanjiani. The actress looked stunning in her desi girl avatar as she donned a sequin georgette saree in black by Jade by Monica and Karishma. She delivered a powerful speech that impressed her fans globally and also shared how motherhood has been treating her. Take a look at her talking about her journey, the presence of South Asian figures in Hollywood and life as a new mom:
While addressing the crowd, she said, “Each and every one of you is here today because you are excellent in what you do. I came ten years ago and started looking for work in America.” She talked about the time when she was among the very few brown people at Hollywood parties and how it made her feel proud and strange at the same time. “We went out there and met everyone else. But today, I am not someone else. Today, I stand amongst peers, amongst colleagues, amongst South Asian excellence. I have goosebumps, I am emotional, it makes me very proud,” she added.
Priyanka did not arrive at the party with Nick or her baby. At one point in her speech, she revealed that the couple has been staying extremely occupied and has not attended social gatherings much. “Haven’t been stepping out anywhere but had to come here tonight just to say this that I’m highly proud to be rubbing shoulders with all of you, to be encouraging you,” she said. Well, raising a child and ruling the world simultaneously is quite a big deal, and we’re glad that the new mamma is doing it all with ease and grace.
The actress shared several pics from the event on her Instagram handle and said that she felt proud to honour all the South Asian Oscar nominees. She wrote, “What a special honor it was to cohost a pre-oscar celebration honoring this year’s 10 South Asian Oscar nominees, and the friends, family, and colleagues who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make all of this possible.” She added that last night gave her all the feels and well, her powerful speech gave us major feels as well.
