Fashion’s Most Admired Tastemaker
Masaba Gupta is the designer who made kaleidoscopic prints cool in India. She first burst on the fashion scene at just 19. A push from Wendell Rodricks, her mentor and teacher, encouraged Masaba to make her debut at the Lakme Fashion Week with her collection ‘Katran’ under the Gen Next category in 2009. Immediately after, Masaba set up her eponymous label, House of Masaba. Her big break came in 2012 when she was appointed as Satya Paul’s Creative Director. By 2014, Masaba’s signature prints became a legit fashion phenomenon and she went on to collaborate with brands like Amrapali, Louis Vuitton and Bvlgari. She even launched a limited edition Masaba X Game of Thrones Collection. Then in 2020, Masaba became the first Indian designer to headline and star in a Netflix show, Masaba Masaba based on her life. The show was a hit and paved the way for Masaba’s acting career!
Power Move
In 2022, Aditya Birla Fashion acquired a 51% stake in House of Masaba in an impressive ₹90 crore deal. The merger gave Masaba the push to expand her retail footprint with a beauty, wellness, and skincare brand called ‘Love Child’. The name is a witty play on her story as the love child of Vivian Richards and Neena Gupta!
