Ever since we started watching movies, we have seen numerous toxic male characters screaming, fighting or doing something absurd. While there have been some woke characters that our cinema has blessed us with in recent times, there’s always something off about these characters in one way or another.
Hence, we have decided to make a guide for creating a flawless hero with heartwarming qualities of different male characters that rebuilt our faith in love and relationships.
1. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’s Taran Khanna & His Self Security
This character feels like a breath of fresh air each time we watch this movie because he brought happiness to his fiance’s world when she had given up on the idea of love. He was so secure and trusted his fiance with all his heart.
2. Raazi’s Iqbal Syed & His Warmth
This character never danced, cracked jokes or even talked a lot, but yet comforted his wife – from a different nation – with the smallest gestures. From bringing her favourite classic music records to gifting her a payaal, his love had an undebatable warmth.
3. Jab We Met’s Aditya Kashyap & His Willingness To Change
Whoever thinks a man can’t change, needs to learn a lot from this character. From a dejected and heartbroken man to a cheerful human – with just a pinch of love – his transformation made a warm home in our hearts.
4. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’s Rishi Talwar & His Maturity
It won’t be wrong to write that this is an underrated character. He was both, a fun-loving son and a doting husband. We could see his maturity when he invited his former wife to his future wedding, letting their past go because he knew she was an important part of his life.
5. Veer-Zaara’s Veer & His Resilience
I mean, we don’t even need to write anything for this one. This character taught us innumerable things – resilience, patience and most importantly, the power of love – which is beyond religions and boundaries. He waited for his love without thinking about the future and it worked out for him in the end because agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaaho, toh poori kainaat usse tumse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai.
6. Dil Dhadakne Do’s Sunny & His Progressive Thinking
At times, we need a reality check to understand ourselves a little better. This character not just brought more clarity to his friend’s life, but also blessed us with the most brilliant and progressive male character, ever.
7. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’s Aman Mehra & His Ability To Let Go
We have mentioned this earlier and we will mention it again – this character deserved better things. It’s not easy to let go of someone you love, but to free them when they don’t belong to you – that’s something only a real hero can do.
8. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’s Imraan Qureshi & His Realness
It’s comfortable for a character to be stubborn and bullheaded, and just to behave like that for their entire lives. However, this character showcased that real growth is when someone can acknowledge and face their demons, and a man doesn’t need to be ‘macho’ for that.
9. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’s Jai Singh Rathore & His Friendliness
It’s hard to find both, a lover and a friend, but this character made us believe that men like him do exist. He was a great friend, a loving son and a dotting lover – I mean, where do we even find such men who would follow us at the airport and sing jaane tu ya jaane na?
10. Dear Zindagi’s Dr. Jehangir “Jug” Khan & His Reassurance
We can write without hesitation that this was the finest male character that our cinema has written. Even though it was his on-screen profession, his reassurance and sensitivity calmed our restless souls through the screen.
11. Gully Boy’s MC Sher & His Support Towards His Male Counterpart
When we two men, especially competitors, meet in a movie, there’s nothing but rivalry and gang wars. However, this character changed the game with his unwavering support and brilliant mentorship towards a newbie.
12. Piku’s Rana & His Ability To Let A Woman Have Her Space & Autonomy
This character showcased that not all relations need a name or a tag – some bonds exist right between love and friendship. He taught us all that it’s absolutely fine to let a woman have her freedom and not to feel ‘authoritative’ just because you are a man.
13. Badhaai Ho’s Jeetender Kaushik & His Commitment Towards His Wife In A Patriarchal World
This unconventional character gave a fresh direction to adult love and sex. His commitment to stand with his wife in difficult times and when the sexist society taunted her was commendable and the character was like a sight to sore eyes.
14. Bareilly Ki Barfi’s Narottam Mishra & His Idea Of Being A Father
In the world of ‘tum yeh nahin kar sakti’, this character said, ‘beti, ek cigarette dena” to his on-screen daughter. He taught us that a father can also be his daughter’s best friend and the air beneath her wings.
15. Lakshya’s Karan Shergill & His Passion
This character taught us that even though someone doesn’t know what to do for most of their lives, they can still find their passion when they are compassionate enough.
These male characters were like a fresh breeze that brought a wave of change with them. We really hope to see more such characters who force the audience to think and change for good.
