Remember Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor’s film Ishqzaade? If you’ve seen the film then we’re sure you remember the moment when Zoya slapped Parma across the face. Well, it seems like this has happened yet again.
Parineeti and Arjun are currently gearing up for the release of their upcoming black comedy film Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. And now, just days before the big day, Arjun has opened up about being slapped by Parineeti once again….on-screen (of course)!
In a recent interview, Arjun opened up about the film which focuses on violence against women. Sharing that he takes the issues seriously as he has grown up surrounded by women, the actor said that it is also important to separate oneself from the character. “Violence against women is taken seriously by someone like me who has grown up in an environment surrounded by women. I firmly believe when you are doing a character you have to step out of being your personal self and believe that you have signed up to play a character because people like that exist in society,” said Arjun.
The actor revealed that while the film is about violence against women, his character Pinky is not the perpetrator (Phew). Arjun said that the physical violence in the film between Pinky and Sandeep is ‘circumstantial and it’s more about helping and protecting each other. He further added that the situation is ‘real’ as it is what the director, Dibakar Banerjee, wanted.
“Having said that Pinky does not raise his hand on Sandeep. The physical violence that is there is circumstantial. It is more about helping one another and protecting one another. There is also a feeling of angst and frustration that Sandeep feels towards Pinky, where she literally wants to cry and hit me and at the same time it is just me protecting myself in that sequence,” adds Arjun.
Talking about getting slapped by Parineeti aka Sandeep yet again, Arjun said, “I have been slapped yet again by Parineeti like I was in Ishaqzaade and that trend continues! But it was not pressuring because you have read a script and you have understood the demand of the character and circumstances, and it comes in a moment of emotional chaos in both their lives, so it is not like I am beating her up. I don’t think I would play a character like that.”
For the unversed, Dibakar Banerjee’s film Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar started filming in November 2017. It was initially scheduled to release in 2020 but was pushed to 2021 owing to the COVID-19 induced lockdown. The film is set to hit theatres on 19 March 2021.
Well, we can’t wait to watch these two on-screen once again. We’re gonna go and book our tickets to watch this film, what about you?
