Recently, I did a solo road trip. I was wasn’t sure what to expect or experience. I did it to get a break from society and most importantly, I did it for myself. Ditching the cons, I took a chance, and believe me, it was one of the most brilliant experiences I’ve ever had in my life! So, here’s me giving you reasons as to why you should be doing one yourself.
1. Travel Pushes You To Meet New People
Since you aren’t travelling with any familiar faces, you are pushed into meeting new ones. Trust me, that’s one of the best perks of travelling alone. You’ll not just get to interact with them, but also understand their cultural and traditional backgrounds from a liberal perspective. At the end of the trip, you’ll realize that you’ve morphed into a far more polished individual. In addition, you could also sign up on airbnb and courchsurfing and stay with like minded without burning a hole in your pocket!
2. You Will Finally Be ‘The’ Miss Independent Lady
When you’re travelling alone, you are completely on your own. There’s absolutely no one to spoon feed you and guide you through your journey, except strangers. And, that’s a good thing, because if you lacked a backbone in the city, here’s the time to grow one! Read this modern woman’s manifesto on traveling alone – it’s the best arsenal you can have.
3. You Learn To Adapt To Change (and Cuisines)
Let’s say you went for a vacation to Japan, and you’re so used to eating Indian food, and the food there is all alien to you, then what? Are you going to starve yourself to death? Obviously not! You will learn to develop a taste for that food. Once you do that, eating sushi for you back in India will become a regular habit! And you will learn to appreciate new cuisines – you can even make a bucket list to boot. 4. You Might Just Bump Into Your Soul mate (Swoon!)
If you’re lucky and single, you might just find true love on this trip! Because, like you, there are other people too who fancy travelling, and if your mind clicks well with a particular stranger, there’s nothing like it! You could explore places, grab a few drinks or even do a couple of adventure sports together.
5. You Learn To Spend Your Greens Wisely
When you’re on a trip with your girlfriends, you tend shop till you drop. You eat at the fanciest restaurants, visit the most expensive spas, and party at the some of the most poshest clubs. By the time you get back home, you haven’t saved a single penny. However, traveling alone is different ball game altogether. You learn to save, splurge only on what’s necessary and enjoy a minimalistic lifestyle. A whole new dimension to living within your means – almost a challenge!
6. You Touch Peoples Lives And They Will Touch Yours!
If you’ve seen the movie ‘Queen’ you’ll understand what I’m getting at. Even though Rani (Kangana Ranaut) had some serious language barrier and relationship issues, she touched a whole lot of lives during her stay in Amsterdam. That’s what travelling to an alien place is all about! You get a chance to create some of the most precious bonds that you will cherish for a whole lifetime. Maybe you’ll find great friends, you’ll probably meet a traveling soul and find nirvana or even fall in love with a city – who knows!
