She came. She slayed. She conquered. Alia Bhatt has officially claimed the Met Gala red carpet. No cap! The best bit? She made it look effortless.
After much anticipation, pictures and videos of Alia’s Met Gala debut are finally out and she looks divine in her grand Prabal Gurung gown. Right on the theme (Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty), Alia has taken inspiration from the classic Chanel bride and I am in love. “My look tonight was inspired from this and in particular by supermodel Claudia Schiffer’s 1992 Chanel bridal look,” she wrote on Instagram. It sounds fitting that Alia made her Met Gala debut in a white gown!
She has, after all, had a phenomenal year in the colour. From the Gangubai Kathiwadi promotions to her wedding saree, the colour white was her pick for some of the key moments. She was even wearing white while receiving her Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
In her post from the venue, Alia mentioned that white is special because it is also the colour of her beautiful cat, Edward. Basically, Alia didn’t just blindly follow the theme but also merged it with something significant to her. That’s exactly how you score a winning look!
Coming to Alia’s glorious white gown, I am in love with the structured bodice and how it fits like a glove. And oh, the glovelettes! Yea, that’s a classic Karl Lagerfeld detail right there.
I insist that you take a closer look at Alia’s gown. It has been painstakingly hand-embellished with 100,000 pearls in varying sizes to contour and add shape wherever required. I love the effort that Prabal has put into the garment. He knew he was onto something big.

Alia’s OTT studs are the perfect finishing touch for the look. A huge shoutout to stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania for balancing the outfit so well. It’s not too much, It’s not too less. It’s just right which by the way is a difficult point to hit given this year’s theme. Unlike other Met Galas, the idea was to practice a little restraint while paying homage to Karl and Anaita just knew how to get it right!
