I Used To Throw Up Deliberately: Nia Sharma Opens Up About Battling Eating Disorder

Contrary to popular belief, celebrities don’t always have it easy. They are under constant scrutiny of shutterbugs. And thanks to excessive criticism and body-shaming, women these days are under extreme pressure to look a certain skewed type of beautiful–mostly slim! Actress Nia Sharma is no different. The fame that comes with showbiz definitely comes at a price and the TV actress would completely agree with us. Nia, who has been a part of the Indian Television industry for over a decade now had to pay a price for being able to make a special place for herself.

While speaking to a media portal recently, Nia opened up about battling an eating disorder for years now. The actress shared that she faced a lot of issues related to weight gain and also advised everyone else to not do the same mistakes that she did.

Nia revealed, “There were times when I just let myself go and overindulged in food. And when I ate a lot, I would feel extremely guilty. So, I would try to throw up what I ate. This was a practice for many years, but I now realise that it is one of the worst things I did to myself.” The actress further said that she used to starve herself if she felt even slightly bloated as she never wanted to gain weight. “I used to throw up deliberately”, said Nia, each time she thought she is gaining even the slightest fat around her belly.

The actress, who was ranked as Asia’s second sexiest woman in 2017, highlighted how psychological factors can make one gain weight.

Nia also revealed that her best buddy from the telly world, actor Arjun Bijlani and then co-star Ravi Dubey also sat her down and spoke to her about the issue, which ultimately helped her a lot to deal with the disorder.
