It’s 2022, and yet several actresses in Bollywood still have to face prejudice. From being told that they have a small shelf-life to not getting impactful roles after marriage and kids, there are far too many glass ceilings for women. However, thanks to a fiery host of fabulous actresses such as Kareena Khan Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, there’s a noticeable change in the industry. While things are slowly moving towards the right direction, there’s still a long, long way to go. In a recent interview, actress and former Miss India 2002 Neha Dupia reminded us how there’s still discrimination in Bollywood. And NGL, it’s heartbreaking!
Speaking to a media portal, Neha said she was asked to step down from several projects because she was pregnant. She said, “Up to now, I have been asked to step down from projects due to pregnancy. They said my look would be different. So you face rejection at all levels”. TBH, how ridiculous is that?
Neha further added, “I have had situations where I have been confirmed for projects and suddenly I get to know that we’re going to South Africa, or wherever else in the world, and later on you get to know, the whole unit is there and you’re not shooting for it. I have had rejection at that level. I know I have been replaced without somebody even calling me and telling me.”
Truth be told, we can’t believe women are still treated like they are dispensable in films. Women today are getting similar box office numbers like their male counterparts and we think it’s high time people realised that being pregnant doesn’t change a woman’s capabilities. And when it comes to Neha, we’re hella proud of opening up about her struggles. We defo are always rooting for her success–you go girl!
