All my friends were either engaged or getting married, and I was still single. It did make me feel a little uncomfortable but I just decided to let the emotion pass. Another childhood friend of mine was getting married and I had to go to attend her cocktail function. So, I wore my shortest dress and my highest heels, applied some makeup and decided to enjoy the night. I had no one to go along with, to the wedding function, so I took my best friend who was also engaged. As we sat in the cab, I told my friend that my mom had signed me up for a matrimonial site and that I was meeting someone the following day. I was worried about not having found the right person and always imagined myself falling head over heels in love and marrying the guy. She consoled me saying I will find my soulmate sooner or later and even if it was going to be an arranged marriage, I will fall in love. I wasn’t convinced, at all.
As soon as we entered the hall, all the worry flew away as we kept ourselves busy at the bar counter. We had some really amazing white wine and proceeded to the dance floor. After eating some snacks and dancing to some amazing music, I spotted a handsome, tall guy smiling at me. The alcohol made me feel freer and more confident, so I smiled back and asked him to dance with me. We spent the next few hours dancing, chatting, flirting and drinking some more. I told him about my situation and all of a sudden he said, ‘Marry me instead’ and we both laughed out loud. We had a great time together (most of which neither of us remember). The night ended and we both went our own ways, thinking that we wouldn’t meet again.
But somehow the night probably wasn’t destined to end, just yet. It all started with a simple ‘Hey, did you reach home?’ message from him and in no time, we were sharing our dreams and aspirations with one another. We felt a very strong connection that we knew was meant to be. Although he was in a different city at that point of time, we stuck together, till one fine day he moved to my city and from then on, there was no looking back.
Today, one and a half years later, we are still madly in love with each other. For all you single ladies out there, don’t worry. I met him at my friend’s wedding and I had no hope. There’s a special someone for all of you waiting out there!
