Two long years have gone by since my ex and I broke up. No calls, no texts and no meetups happened after that. During the time that we dated, I remember him making me meet all of his family and close friends. I basically knew him inside out, or at least, I thought so…
Just a month ago, while I was browsing through Facebook, I checked my chat box. Wondering what the message request box section was, I clicked on it. A dozen spam messages, and one message from this really cute guy popped up. I have to confess that I stalked his profile after that. Having no mutual friends, I assumed that we both came from different worlds.

I dropped him a “Hi” message, little did I expect that we would be chatting day in and out after that. Never had I seen, met or even heard his voice before. All we did was chat through FB most of the time. Apart from his really good looks, he was extremely intelligent and funny. At one point, I even thought that I might have developed feelings for him.
One day, while I was at work, a message popped up on my phone screen. It was from him! It read that he wanted more that just texting. He wanted to take me out for dinner and see me in person. I got goosebumps while reading that message! But, since I liked the guy, I said yes.
We decided to meet on a weekend at Monkey Bar in Bandra. To be honest, I was really nervous. I mean, it felt as If I knew him but it also felt that he could be too good to be true in real life.
As I pondered, I couldn’t help but notice this attractive man who walked in the bar. He was wearing a crisp white shirt, well-fitted jeans, had a rugged beard and a smile that could kill. My heart beat faster as he walked closer to my table.
“Hello Jahnavi, so nice to finally meet you!” I shook his hand and offered him a seat next to me. We spoke, we ate and even cracked a couple of jokes. While I kept thinking how amazing this date was going, all of a sudden, he mentioned that he’s seen me before. Wait a second – does this guy know me? Or, have I met him before somewhere?! – I panicked!
He held my hand, looked straight into my eyes and said, “You look happier and well now.” This confused me. What was he even talking about, again? I wasn’t even drunk to not make sense of what he was saying! He later confessed that he was my ex’s cousin brother. Like whaaattt?! When and how on earth could that even happen!
Turns out, he used to be studying in Australia while I was seeing my ex. When he was here, he bumped into me at a few family events but never made conversation. What’s even worse was that he stayed in my ex’s building too! I had no idea I was unknowingly on a date with my ex boyfriend’s brother! It was the most awkward date ever!

From a dream come true, this date was turning out to be a nightmare. It was really awkward talking to my ex’s cousin brother. After dinner, he asked me if I would like to do a movie sometime. I told him that I’d let him know. I never did….
As soon as I got home, I changed into my pajamas, logged into FB and blocked him. I did the same on Whatsapp too. There was no chance that I’d go out with someone whom I had a past with. Least of all, my ex’s cousin brother! #facepalm
