If you were to ask me how much I love crop tops, I would say – to infinity and beyond. I love them in every cut, colour and style. They’re amazing to have around to pair with skirts, jeans, shorts and trousers to look incredibly stylish.
Some time around this year, fringed crop tops started popping up in the stores. They look dreamy and gorgeous and SO trendy! While I was window shopping at a mall one day, I came across this really cute fringe crop top at a store across the food court. I quickly finished up the food and made my way to the store. I walked in and asked the shopkeeper how much was the price. He quoted a high figure that I certainly didn’t think it was worth for. I thanked him and left the shop. I even checked out some more places afterwards but found them all too high-priced.

By then, I really wanted to add a cute fringe crop top to my collection. And as luck would have it, while I was browsing through Pinterest one day, I found a DIY tutorial of how to make a fringe crop top from scratch. All I needed was a t-shirt, a pair of scissors, a chalk, a pencil and a ruler. Nothing that I couldn’t get my hands on easily!
So I went through my closet and found an old tee that was worthy for giving this experiment a shot. I used a chalk to mark the point at which my fringed tassels would begin (a little above my waistline). I then cut off the bottom seam of my tee and placed my ruler on the tee and marked out half inch intervals across it.
I then started cutting half-inch wide vertical lines up to the chalk line that I had marked. I did it both for the front and back side of the tee. For final touch ups, I just used my finger to curl each strip up and knot them up. I couldn’t believe that it took just 15 minutes to do it!

I usually wear my tasselled crop tops with high waist jeans or a pair of shorts so that it just shows off my midriff area, but not too much. It isn’t only super easy to make but it will also save you money in return. Plus, you can put an old tee to some good use. Feel free to experiment with knots and beads. I hope this helped! I’m surely going to try this out with new colours and styles.
