Whether it was the wildly funny comic timings of Hawa Hawai or the sensual moves in Kate Nahi Katate Din Yeh Raat, both from the same movie Mr. India, Sridevi’s verstality as an actor was unmatched. The news of the sudden demise of the powerhouse performer has left us feeling nostalgic about her charismatic performances.
The actress who has ruled the big screen of Bollywood in the 80s died on Saturday in Dubai at 54 after a sudden cardiac arrest. She was attending nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding along with her husband Boney Kapoor and her younger daughter Khushi Kapoor in Dubai. Popularly praised as the first female superstar of Hindi cinema, the veteran actress was keeping her fans updated through the pictures on her Instagram handle.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences, “Saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi. She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles and memorable performances. My thoughts are with her family and admirers in this hour of grief. May her soul rest in peace.”
Sridevi has been working in the film industry since she was 4. She had widely worked in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi films. Her first Hindi film was Julie in 1975 and after her first leading role in 1976 in K Balachander’s Moondru Mudichu, opposite Kamal Haasan, she found success in the industry. She was much more than an actress, remembered for her aptly-timed comedy, Sridevi was also a style icon of her era. Even in her 50s, she did ‘glamour’ like nobody else.
After her latest revenge drama, Mom, she had shot of a special appearance in Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero. Knowing how iconic and encouraging Sridevi’s work was, it’s safe to say that it won’t be easy for the world to get over the news anytime soon.

5. Long after stepping back from her acting career after marrying director Boney Kapoor, she made her comeback with Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish, playing a housewife who is empathetic and does NOT give up!
6. In 2017, she stole hearts in Ravi Udyawar’s vendetta-themed Mom!
7. And now, you’ll see her in Anand L Rai’s Zero as herself and we are not even questioning, we KNOW that it’ll be memorable for all of us!
It’s amazing that in her last movie, she’ll be seen playing herself. Through her films and life, Sridevi has always inspired us to not give up and those lessons will stay with us for life.
