Model Calls Out Supposedly ‘Size-Inclusive’ Fashion Brand For Lack Of Size Options

There was a time when fashion brands majorly focused on catering to certain body types. Take, for instance, Victoria’s Secret which has been under fire for promoting unhealthy beauty standards. But times have changed. Victoria’s Secret and others have come a long way by undergoing a transformative shift. They’ve finally recognised the importance of embracing diversity and representing a wider range of body types. Yet, the battle for inclusivity in the world of fashion is far from over; it’s not even close.

Maanvi, a Delhi-based model took to her Instagram to share her unpleasant experience with denim-wear brand, Freakins. She revealed that she signed up as a model for them after she thought that they genuinely created denim for all sizes. But to her surprise, the reality was far from it. After getting her hair and makeup done, she was shamed by the brand’s stylist and was told that she had ‘too much junk in the trunk’.

Take a look:

I’ve personally always believed that it’s okay if a brand wants to only produce clothes for a certain body type. What’s not okay is to claim to be size-inclusive and fail to deliver the same. Getting one plus-size model to walk the ramp does not make you inclusive. Not having enough sizes to try at store does not make you inclusive. No doubt, we’ve come a long way but there’s still a lot of ground to cover.

Truth is, fashion brands play a significant role in shaping positive body image. If they embrace and represent a diverse range of sizes, it sends out a powerful message that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. It’s not just about fashion but promoting self-acceptance and a healthier, more inclusive world.
