Shahid Kapoor and wifey Mira are among the most adorable couples in Bollywood. We love their Instagram videos where we see their goofy side and the pranks they play on each other. Their love story is also one of our favourites because it’s pretty much like the actor’s movie, Vivaah. Just like the film, Shahid and Mira had a traditional arranged marriage and did not know each other well before tying the knot. It turned out amazingly for the two and we’re in awe of the beautiful world they have created with each other. But, it was not always so easy. There was a time when Mira wasn’t sure about her husband and if she liked him enough.
It was during 2016, the time when the movie, Udta Punjab was about to release. Mira was adamant to leave Shahid if he was anything like his character, Tommy Singh, IRL. For the unversed, the actor played the role of a rockstar in the film who was addicted to drugs and other substances.
During an interview with a leading daily, Shahid was asked if he was as intense and temperamental in real life as in the roles he played. He said that he’s quite calm and composed as a person and shared a funny anecdote when his wife confused him for one of his characters. “Personally not angry at all. A very funny thing, when I and Mira just got married, I took her to see Udta Punjab before it released, and we saw it in the editing room. I was going, so I was like, ‘You want to come?’ and she was like, ‘Yes, okay I’ll come,'” he said.
In the interval, Shahid noticed that Mira had shifted far away from him and had a tensed look on her face. He said, “When we started seeing the film, she was sitting right next to me, we were on a sofa. At interval time, when I turned towards her she was literally five feet away. And I was like, ‘What happened?’ We had just married. Aur arranged marriage thi (It was an arranged marriage), we didn’t know each other that well. She looked at me, and her first question was, ‘Are you this guy? Are you like him? I don’t want to be with you’. I said, ‘No, no, that’s Tommy Singh. That has nothing to with me’.”
Honestly, we don’t really blame Mira. With the kind of intense and rowdy roles Shahid does, (case in point—Kabir Singh, Kaminey, R…Rajkumar) it’s hard to separate him from his characters. But, we’re glad that the actor is nothing like the fictional guys he plays on-screen.
Talking of his characters, we’re quite excited to see him in Jersey, where he’s going to play the role of a fallen sportsman. The movie will release on April 14 and we cannot wait!
